About The Role
The work of Project Manager, System Development is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada’s Lifeline.
In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, management, development, implementation and evaluation of complex projects that advance the performance of the organ and tissue donation and transplantation system in Canada. You will coordinate, lead and manage the activities of all internal and external stakeholders involved in the Project Team to achieve project objectives in accordance with established cost and time parameters.
You will report to the Associate Director and will work closely with senior project managers across the team. You will work in collaboration with the OTDT team, its medical advisors, the regional organ donation organizations and transplant programs, professional societies, health care professionals, the eye and tissue banks, HLA laboratories, Canadian Blood Services (CBS) advisory committees, Health Canada and the Organ Donation and Transplantation Collaborative, national and international research experts, as well as patient and public partners, including donors and their families, to advance and improve the performance and quality of the OTDT system in Canada.
Responsibilities include:
  • Work with Project Team and Steering Committee to recruit team members, as necessary. Oversees, supports and directs project team members including physicians to effectively accomplish the goals and objectives of the project.
  • Works with the Project Team, Steering Committee, other CBS staff and external stakeholders to develop and maintain the Project Plan; define the deliverables, staffing plan, roles and responsibilities, timelines, communications plan, training strategy, implementation and evaluation strategy, risk management plan, costs, transition and close-out plans.
  • Monitors the overall project progress, to ensure the project is proceeding according to timelines, meeting targets and expectations, and adhering to established parameters. Documents and reports project status to the Associate Director, appropriate Funders or Sponsors, Steering Committee and/or other parties as required, on behalf of the Project Team.
  • Ensures the project progresses as planned, on schedule and on budget.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Develops and delivers knowledge translation and implementation plans to advance adoption of guidelines into policy and practice including evaluation processes.
  • Leads, supports or participates in the development of the Project Business Case, as needed, in consultation with OTDT team members and external stakeholders and resources. This includes identifying and estimating project benefits, scope, approach, risks, resources requirements, timelines, regulatory requirements, costs and funding.
  • Identifies, assesses and monitors project risks throughout the life of the project. Develops mitigation strategies against these risks and implements these strategies, if required.
Qualifications, Education and Training:
  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • University degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience, in the fields of organ and or tissue donation, transplantation or critical care, as well as progressive project management experience and/or training is preferred
  • General management and leadership experience.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of business processes, regulations, and quality environment.
  • Experience and demonstrated skills in evidence-based practice and policy development, implementation and evaluation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the continuum of care in donation and transplantation.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with a large and diverse group of external clinical and administrative stakeholders.
  • Advanced verbal and written communications skills in English. French is an asset.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret business needs and risks, and develop integrated, innovative solutions.
  • Ability to deal with senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze research including translating analytics into meaningful strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create a team environment that promotes high performance.
