What You’ll Do Here


The Director, Human Resources (Corporate and Concessions) will provide trusted and valued support to the business by fulfilling business requirements through talent acquisition, workforce planning, employee relations, compensation, HR program, employee experience, learning and talent development planning and initiatives.


Talent Acquisition


  • Support recruitment strategies to deliver the current and future talent needs for the business
  • Maintain an Equity, Diversity & Inclusion lens on all talent acquisition activities
  • Use a consultative approach to build relationships with JV partner(s) to enhance the staffing experience for all stakeholders
  • Partner with Aecon’s Talent Acquisition CoE to execute recruitment needs


Workforce Planning


  • Promote career opportunities within business units by engaging employees with transferable skills
  • Influence internal movement of Aecon talent across sectors or projects where appropriate
  • Assist leaders with resource planning needs and determining the need and/or opportunity for internal talent mobility vs external talent sourcing
  • Liaise with the HR business partner community across sectors to maintain a pulse on available Aecon talent
  • Build strong relationships with HR counterparts on JVs to ensure ongoing collaboration and effective support of Aecon’s seconded employees.
  • Engage with leaders to understand the pipeline of key roles required in the near and midterm
  • Actively monitor and engage with seconded employees on JVs to ensure a strong pulse on movement, retention, and engagement of Aecon’s talent


Talent Development


  • Analyze department requirements and skills shortages/gaps in the organization and industry to determine strategy for learning and development programs to close the gaps
  • Maximize employee engagement and development through deliberate career opportunities
  • Facilitate regular talent and business capability reviews and work with leaders on generating development roadmaps to build talent potential and experience.
  • Partner with Aecon Learning and Talent Development CoEs to rollout innovative programs and/or approaches to meet talent development needs


HR Programs / Employee Experience


  • Leverage Aecon’s Employee Recognition programs
  • Support Employee Engagement initiatives
  • Support the development and roll-out of various corporate and operational HR initiatives as required


Compensation & Benefits


  • Facilitate year-end compensation review for applicable client groups, including base pay review and STIP (Short Term Incentive Plan) administration, and distribution of employee letters
  • Complete compensation analysis for workforce transitions and present recommendations to business leaders (ex. new hires, promotions, transfers)
  • Provide informed guidance on compensation practices to the business in alignment with Aecon’s overall job structure.


HR Leadership


  • Support the development of Change Management plans for various operational or HR initiatives as required
  • Ensure HR activities consider functional/operational objectives, talent, and risk/governance at all times
  • Ensure SBUs are engaged in HR best practices and identify continuous improvement opportunities to optimize HR Business process.
  • Collaborate and assist Aecon’s various HR project teams in achieving project milestones / objectives
  • Lead and align the Corporate and Concessions HR team with the strategic intent of delivering strong business and employee support through active collaboration and accountability.


What You Bring To The Team


  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a progressive HR leadership role
  • Construction industry experience is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and determine appropriate required actions
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in a large, multi-faceted, matrix company is required
  • Proven results in talent acquisition including sourcing, leveraging metrics, and recruitment marketing, and team leadership
  • Experience with all facets of HR including employee relations, recruiting, learning, compensation, analytics, and employee engagement programs
  • Corporate experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on critical details and define and execute an appropriate path forward
  • Demonstrated passion for developing team talent
