MLT Aikins has a new opportunity for a Senior Human Resources Administrator to join the HR team. Reporting to the Director of HR Services, this position manages the full life cycle of recruitment activities across the firm and serves as a key member of our student recruitment programs. The Senior Human Resources Administrator supports the HR leadership team on the annual programs, assists with new initiatives and acts as back-up for the HR Coordinators.
As this role provides HR support across western Canada, remote work opportunities are available with our preferred candidate being based in Saskatchewan or Manitoba.

This position requires you to work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment. The successful candidate will excel at providing superior customer service and communicating effectively with all departments and external partners, developing and cultivating strong working relationships to support a high-performance culture.
Responsibilities include:
Recruitment:
- Managing the full-cycle recruiting process, including posting positions, screening resumes, short-listing candidates, scheduling/conducting pre-screening interviews, co-ordinating assessments and testing, creating offer letters and processing background/reference checks
- Sourcing and building a talent pipeline for core business roles using proactive sourcing strategies such as direct recruitment and/or networking with passive candidates, including using various recruitment websites
- Providing expert advice around talent acquisition best practices and candidate selection, while managing hiring managers’ and candidates’ expectations, which includes ensuring everyone involved is well-informed throughout the recruitment process
- Developing and maintaining a repository and framework for job descriptions and postings
- Managing annual recruitment campaigns for summer student and articling student programs, which includes working closely with the student recruitment partners across all offices
- Developing and sustaining strong relationships with hiring managers, partners, student recruitment committees and third-party search agencies
HR administration:
- Helping implement both new and existing HR programs and initiatives
- Reviewing bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for accuracy and verification
- Learning how the different areas of the firm operate and developing a deep understanding of the values and culture of the firm
- Analyzing and creating regular reports and presentations on HR metrics (e.g. turnover rates, cost and time to hire, etc.)
- Providing support to the HR and Payroll & Benefits Coordinators, including covering the internal service desk tool and acting as back-up for both planned and un-planned absences
- Identifying opportunities and contributing to the development of new ideas to streamline processes and improve efficiencies within the HR function
- Assisting the HR Program Manager with the creation of the bi-weekly newsletter content
- Supporting incoming students and lawyers with the submission of Law Society and membership applications and dues
- Assisting with the roll-up of materials for the semi-annual performance management and compensation review processes for both staff and lawyers
Qualifications include:
- Proven ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and strong technical skills; prior HRIS experience considered an asset
- Excellent organizational skills with an ability to work autonomously and independently prioritize important projects or tasks
- Minimum of five years of related experience; a combination of relevant experience and education may be considered
- Undergraduate degree in human resources or related field
- Strong initiative and focus on providing excellent customer experience
- A positive and professional attitude with strong verbal and written communication skills and exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Problem solving and analytical capabilities with a track record of innovative thinking and organized implementation of changes
- Knowledge of human resources practices and programs
