Senior Real Estate Accountant

This role is a 3 month contract.

About the Opportunity

• Prepare bank reconciliations for 50+ accounts and reconcile intercompany transactions
• Lease set-up, renewals and expiries, security deposit set-up and application to tenant accounts for new and expiring leases
• Prepare manual billing for any tenant chargeback as per lease.
• Set-up wires & transfers in operational bank accounts portal for HST, corporate taxes and payroll deduction remittances to CRA
• Support asset management team with tenant statement of accounts and queries
• Prepare and submit payroll information for group companies, ensuring salaries are accurate and the appropriate amounts of deductions are processed to CRA in a timely manner
• Interface with external bodies and stakeholders including auditors, accounting transaction support teams, third party property managers, co-owners, lenders, bankers and investment personnel, advisory and legal firms in coordination with the Controller as needed.
• Manage and maintain proper accounting for all properties and upstream corporate entities
• Coordinate with the insurance provider in the calculation & allocation of insurance payments among properties and the collection of insurance certificates from tenants
• Post monthly tenant rent charges and apply cash receipts to tenant accounts
• Ad hoc tasks as assigned by the Controller
• Prepare HST filings for properties, as applicable
• Prepare financial statements and corresponding working papers

About You

• University degree in accounting
• Experience working with Spectra or Yardi is an asset
• Minimum 5+ years of real estate accounting experience
• Comfortable taking direction and working independently
• Experience working with budgets and conducting in depth variance
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience with commercial real estate
• Experience with accounting for real estate Joint Ventures and Limited Partnerships
• Strong analytical and excel skills
