Senior Controller - Real Estate & Property Management

The Senior Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounts receivable, accounts payable, and property accounting functions for all the properties that generate income. They will also be in charge of managing a team and working closely with other members of the finance and operations teams.

This role’s main responsibilities are divided into various categories, namely: controllership; financial planning & analysis, and people and process management.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with external auditors, including preparing audit working papers and financial statements.
• Establish efficient processes and controls while fostering a mindset of continuous improvement within the team.
• Establish strong supervision of property managers' financial operations, ensuring that property reporting is timely, accurate, and aligned with established policies and procedures.
• Provide continuous coaching, mentorship, and career development support to the finance team.
• Assess and improve the efficiency of monthly reporting processes and timelines.
• Collaborate with the operations team to analyze and provide value-added commentary on quarterly financial results.
• Maintain the financial records of both residential and commercial properties in compliance with established Accounting Standards.
• Manage day-to-day operations related to accounts receivable, accounts payable, and banking activities.
• Supervise accounting operations, including reviewing financial statements, supporting schedules, and journal entries, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Supervise the preparation of annual budgets for property operations, capital expenses, and leasing.
• Take charge of quarterly reporting to ownership by preparing reporting packages accurately and promptly.
• Oversee accounting for property acquisitions, disposals, and setup in the ERP system.

Qualifications & Experience

• University degree in business/accounting
• Strong technical skills including thorough knowledge of ASPE and IFRS
• Extensive experience with Yardi Voyager
• CPA designation is required
• 7 to 10 years related experience in both commercial and residential real estate
• 3 to 5 years of experience in a managerial capacity
