Job Description

SAIT’s International Centre is focused on attracting international students to study at SAIT, assisting with their transition to the institute and life in Canada and supporting them while they study here. The Opportunity


Reporting to the Manager, International Recruitment of the International Centre, the incumbent provides support and carries out strategic directions established by the Director. The Team Lead is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the International Student Recruitment team. The Team Lead will participate in creating goals and objectives for the department and will oversee the development and implementation of recruitment strategies to grow and diversify our international learners. The Team Lead provides leadership within the International Centre that aligns with the International Centre’s key priorities and the SAIT Education Plan. The Team Lead is primarily responsible for the development, execution and management of the comprehensive international student recruitment plan, as well as support and provide oversight for the recruitment team.


The key indicator of success for this role will be measured by meeting international enrolment targets and ensuring diversity amongst our international learners. The Team Lead will work closely with the Manager, International Recruitment of the International Centre to develop strategy and drive international student recruitment.


The individual in this position must be capable of working independently and be a self-starter but with a collegial and collaborative attitude.


The Role


  • Proactively work with internal and external stakeholders to remove barriers for international learners;
  • Provide guidance and assessments of workflow/processes within the department and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies;

  • Monitor activity and performance measures for individual staff by providing feedback and mentoring;

  • In collaboration with the Manager, International Recruitment and the recruitment team the incumbent will develop and implement the international student recruitment strategy;
  • Analyze results of departmental key performance indicators and identify opportunities for improvement;
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and attainment of department targets;
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders including Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canadian embassies and Trade Offices, the Alberta government and Advanced Education;
  • Travel both in country and internationally to participate in recruitment related activities;
  • Promote a positive work environment
  • Research and recommend new opportunities for student recruitment based on application data, market trends and economics;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal stake holders in order to strategically manage enrollment targets;
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the International Centre to position SAIT as a global leader in applied education.
  • Review and evaluate the effectiveness of student recruitment missions, pathway partnerships, international high school counsellor network and agent partnerships in order to produce an annual recruitment report for internal stake holders;
  • In collaboration with the Articulation Coordinator establish relationships which lead to pathway agreements with Canadian curriculum high schools and private English language schools to increase enrollments;
  • Ensures policies/procedures are upheld and changes are implemented effectively
  • Monthly review of student recruitment expenses to ensure fiscal constraint;
  • Responsible for managing a budget of $300,000 – 500,000 annually;
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on marketing collateral that best represents SAIT on the global stage;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, International Recruitment and/or the Director
  • Act as conduit to funnel leads for partnership opportunities, student exchanges and corporate training to the appropriate departments on campus
  • Ensure best practices are applied in student recruitment, including adherence to SAIT policies and procedures;
  • Lead, coach, and motivate the student recruitment team to achieve personal and departmental goals
  • Participate in various committees to ensure that the international voice is both present and heard;
  • Manage and approve scheduling for vacations for support staff ensuring that there is adequate coverage;
  • Work collaboratively with current agents to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship in order to effectively market SAIT;
  • Research strategies and evaluate effectiveness of recruitment and marketing activities (create focus groups, surveys and consult external sources such agents);
  • In collaboration with the Manager, International Recruitment establish recruitment and priorities and targets to support departmental and institutional priorities;
  • Assigns work in accordance with team responsibilities and priorities, in conjunction with overall departmental goals


Qualifications & Experience


  • Second language would be an asset
  • Need to have a strong understanding of the Canadian immigration system
  • Experience living, working or studying abroad preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of applied education
  • Demonstrated successful administrative ability, including budget and financial management processes, public relations, strategic planning, policy formation, staff management and supervision
  • Experience as an international student recruiter and/or recruitment supervisor in a college and/or university setting
  • Ability to foster collaboration and trust, and to work collegially; ability to inspire others to high levels of performance
  • Experience developing a high-level student recruitment plan and seeing it through to completion
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including excellent ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of cultures and linguistic backgrounds
  • Demonstrated excellence in supervision, including leveraging the capabilities of a wide range of people and units
  • Experience with student information systems preferred
