As an Automation Team Leader within our Calgary branch, you will serve as a strategic team leader to our clients in the Automation Solutions space. You will be the go-to resource to assist JMP’s Controls Specialists in solving challenging project obstacles. Using conceptual and technical expertise, you will develop and articulate solutions to complex client automation problems, provide high level oversight for project execution, develop, and maintain client relationships, and provide mentorship, coaching and leadership to your team members. In partnership with your internal team, you will deliver a clear vision, high energy, and intensity that exceeds client expectations. As a licensed Professional Engineer with APEGA or similar, you will be responsible for stamping engineering deliverables and acting as one of the responsible members for the Calgary branch. What would a typical day be like?
- Participate in planning sessions to identify industry business drivers and trends that will serve as the basis for developing key offerings to our clients, attend client field service and emergency calls and facilitate customer meetings sharing your technical expertise
- Drive the JMP design and execution process and provide input on areas for improvement
- Work on all stages of projects, including proposal generation, project definition, design, programming, integration, testing, commissioning, startup, and support services
- Collaborate with the Branch Manager, Business Development Managers, Project Managers, Applications, and other key stakeholders to develop proposals and cost estimates of varying sizes and complexities
- Exercise project management skills by developing project schedules, budgets, and proposals in collaboration with clients and internal project management resources, ensuring completion of all project deliverables to the satisfaction of the client while fostering a culture of safety
- Develop and mentor direct reports and gain management skills, including conducting performance reviews and employee career planning discussions
- Provide technical oversight for automation projects, including quality control/quality assurance and squad checks. This may include stamping engineering deliverables as required.

What qualifies you for this opportunity?
- Reliable transportation and an ability to travel; Controls Specialists at JMP should have the ability to travel within the US and Canada
- Self-starter, who takes ownership and accountability for deliverables
- Motivated and passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
- Willingness to travel to customer locations to provide onsite support, commissioning, startups, etc. and a valid driver’s license
- Proven experience developing, coaching, mentoring, and providing leadership to employees of various skill and experience levels
- Ability to work well with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds
- Hold or be eligible for P.Eng. in Alberta and/or BC is an asset, and be willing to take on responsible member duties
- An Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field of automation and controls, design and configuration of PLC’s, HMI’s, RTU’s, SCADA systems, communication protocols, OT/IT systems and networking
- Industry experience (oil and gas, energy, manufacturing, food and beverage, water, wastewater, mining, forestry)
- Excellent communication and customer service skills (oral, written, and interpersonal)
