Job Summary:


Working with and reporting to the VP, Strategy & Advocacy, your key responsibilities will include:


  • Leading the implementation of new corporate initiatives as assigned.
  • Supporting the development of HOOPP’s strategic planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Creating and implementing HOOPP’s Global Intelligence strategy to support HOOPP’s expanding global presence.


This role will require a strategic thinker who is also a collaborative leader and hands-on. You are a strong project and people manager, ensuring projects and work are delivered on time and on budget. You will be expected to develop strong working relationships across the organization and prepare analysis, reports and presentations to brief the senior and executive management teams, and the Board of Trustees (“Board”). This position will have a fair degree of autonomy with the ultimate goal of being a subject matter expert and authority for the organization and a trusted advisor to the VP/COO/CEO/Executive Team (EXT) and Board.


What you will do:


Global Intelligence


  • Create ad hoc reports, business cases and presentations where no precedent exists, considering necessary messaging and level of detail for a range of purposes and audiences.
  • Building a coherent and effective strategy to procure differentiated information and intelligence from peers, regulators, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators and report on progress regularly.
  • Monitor and analyze the internal and external environment to identify corporate strategic issues, opportunities, and challenges stemming from geopolitical developments.
  • Develop reporting mechanisms and educational seminars for business units, senior and executive management and the Board.
  • Lead the development of HOOPP’s Global Intelligence strategy.
  • Develop VP/COO/EXT strategic messaging, updates and potential engagement strategies for HOOPP Senior Leadership and Board.
  • Research internal/external publications and documents, briefing materials etc. in preparation for meetings, synthesizing large amounts of information into clear, concise language with a consistent level of detail with minimal direction.
  • Increase our presence as a premier institutional investor.
  • Build HOOPP’s capacity to anticipate key new relevant global trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Prepare and present Quarterly updates to VP, COO, CEO, EXT and Board to inform/shape business decisions on a go-forward basis.
  • Develop processes for disseminating key intelligence to the senior and executive management, ensuring continued monitoring and updating on identified issues in a foreign jurisdiction.


Strategic Planning and Initiatives


  • Support the development of the strategic planning process and implementation of key initiatives.
  • Build strong internal relationships across divisions to enhance connectivity among them on key strategic initiatives.
  • Provide opinions, advice, and recommendations relative to planning activities.
  • Lead specific strategy assignments from VP, Strategy & Advocacy.
  • Lead key enterprise strategic projects through the design phase before transitioning to Divisions
  • Working with the larger team, collaborate on the development of the overall strategic planning approach.
  • Work across the organization to identify, plan and support strategic discussions for executive management and the Board throughout the year. This will include conducting analysis and preparing materials to support discussions as well as working with business units as required.
  • Lead and manage work streams, including the development of analysis and materials to support strategic discussions.


Collaborative Leadership and Relationship Building


  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Build strong relationships across HOOPP, with peer plans as well as identify new key contacts for HOOPP in key international markets.
  • Provide strategic advice and make recommendations to the VP, Strategy & Advocacy.
  • Ability to monitor other’s work, identify strengths and weaknesses, and implement change
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritizing to ensure timelines are met.


What you bring:


  • Experience procuring and managing third-party service providers.
  • Ability to analyze data and summarize and visually present information for senior management and executive audiences.
  • Effective collaboration and relationship-management skills, ideally with experience in a decentralized work environment
  • Proven experience working with and presenting to Executive Leaders and Boards of Directors.
  • Passionate self-starter.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Additional professional degrees (e.g., Law, Business, Public Policy) or designations are an asset but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage at least one direct report as well as external consultants and other vendors.
  • Degree in political science, public policy, international relations, law, business, economics/finance, strategy, or related field or equivalent related experience.
  • Strong command of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience working in one or more of the following areas: pensions, economics, institutional investing, strategy, government/international relations, public affairs, public policy and/or risk management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead projects and work collaboratively across business units in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: pensions and/or financial services; finance or economics; public policy; quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Strong political acumen and network with experience in working/building relationships internationally.
