If you want to help transform the Canadian post-secondary education landscape and shine a light on academic excellence, please join usReporting to the Chief People Officer, the Director People - Academic works with the Portfolio’s leadership to help sustain an organizational culture of employee inclusion, high performance, and continuous improvement. As a key advisor to the senior and extended leadership teams, the Director plans and implements progressive people strategies and frameworks that support the objectives of Yorkville University and the academic portfolio. The Director provides strategic advice on complex people and leadership-related issues with respect to academic and general staff. The Director oversees the portfolio’s people programs and initiatives, working closely with centralized centres of excellence (CoE).Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with the academic portfolio’s senior and extended leadership teams to provide thought leadership around people strategies and implement initiatives that improve performance to the respective business areas.
  • Provide advice and counsel on complex and high-risk workplace situations, and successfully resolve organizational issues.
  • Lead the performance evaluation process by training and coaching, guiding on the objective setting process and assisting with personal development plans.
  • Prepare strategic workplace plans for respective business areas that ensure sufficient pipeline strength and diversity to meet future business needs that deliver ROI.
  • Advise leadership and management about all matters of people management including employee relations and engagement, development and training, legal compliance, and policy and procedure administration.
  • Oversee the adoption and change management of people initiatives, programs, and policies within the respective business areas.
  • Coach leaders on people management and leadership effectiveness, and develop initiatives that increase collaboration, productivity, and engagement.
  • Accountable for collaborating with CoE’s when setting strategic objectives and initiatives, as well as ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and frameworks.
  • Mentor, coach and guide direct reports.
  • Analyse and draw insights from data that support recommendations and leadership decision-making.
Education and Experience
  • Knowledge of Canadian employment legislation and its application.
  • Progressive experience as a human resources business partner or working across CoE positions.
  • Proven experience of high-level strategic thinking and adaption into tangible results.
  • Strong experience in client advisory and change management practices.
  • Degree in human resources or a business-related field; post-graduate certificate in human resources is an asset.
