Job Description
Are you looking to join one of Greater Toronto’s Top 2023 Employers?
The Ontario Medical Association (OMA) advocates for and supports doctors, seeking to strengthen their leadership role in caring for patients. We continually seek to be the trusted voice in transforming Ontario’s health-care system by courageously pursuing best practices, new ideas, solutions, and opportunities to improve.
The OMF is the philanthropic arm of the OMA and is committed to improving the health of all Ontarians. Through the work of the OMF, we will bring together physicians, citizens of Ontario, and partners to transform Ontario’s health care system, particularly for those in need. The OMF is primarily focused on health equity and social determinants such as access to services, gender, and racism, among others, and how they affect individual and community health.
Job Summary
You will set and achieve fundraising goals, maintain knowledge of fundraisers' interests, and cultivate relationships with donors, association members, and fellow employees. You will also ensure a strong public profile through events and communications.
You will be responsible for driving revenue and leading the growth of major gifts to meet and exceed revenue goals annually. You will keep donors informed on how their philanthropy is making a significant difference. You are a self-motivated, deadline-driven multitasker, with a keen eye on accountability and knowing how to ask for donations and leverage your board and the OMA in raising funds.
You will act as a champion of the One OMA brand to ensure alignment of the organization as a subsidiary towards a common purpose and outcome. You will ensure integration of efforts and strategies towards the goal of supporting Ontario’s doctors in the delivery of better health care.
You Will Make a Difference By
  • Acting as lead on the Strategic Fundraising Plan and the subsequent working plan that supports the strategy
  • Soliciting financial support from corporations, foundations, and individuals that align with our mandate
  • Managing the annual fundraising event
  • Generating development materials, such as grant proposals.
  • Building a strong prospect pipeline, cultivating relationships with prospects and donors whose philanthropic interests align with the organization’s fundraising priorities.
  • Monitoring and evaluating key performance indicators to provide status updates to the OMF Board of Directors and executive leadership. Maintaining relationships with existing sponsors, donors, partners, and key stakeholders
  • Acting as a trusted advisor and liaison to the Board and subsequent committees on the scope and role of fundraising as it fits within clear governing principles
  • Strategically engage the Executive Team and Board Directors in prospect cultivation and solicitation.
  • Leading a team of staff responsible for event planning, bursary program, data entry and gift processing
  • Working collaboratively with OMA departments that provide support to the OMF, such as finance and communications.
Requirements That Are Important To Us
  • Able to travel, work weekends, and evenings, when required; valid driver’s license required
  • CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) considered an asset
  • Strong record of securing gifts in the six-figure range
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff and engage colleagues to create collaborative impact.
  • Strategic planning, budgeting, and financial management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diverse giving vehicles
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • In depth knowledge of relevant best practices in fundraising
  • Degree in business, non-profit management, or related field
  • Powerful relationship builder with a network of contacts across high profile corporations and organizations.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office applications and CRMs
  • Proficient with sponsorship solicitation
  • 8-10 years fundraising experience, with at least 5+ years’ experience in major gift fundraising.
  • Ability to focus in a fast-paced work environment
The OMA has moved to a permanent hybrid work environment. As such, the individual in this position will be required to work a minimum number of days in our Toronto office.
What Do We Have to Offer You?
  • A commitment to growth and development through paid professional development and continuous in-house learning
  • Competitive salary and bonus program
  • A work environment whose values are to be — respectful, bold, responsive, and transparent in our work and our behaviours
  • An organization that is committed to the equity, diversity and inclusion principles of humility, accountability, collaboration, courage, and integrity
  • An organization that has been recognized as a Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for three consecutive years
  • Friendly and flexible hybrid work environment
  • Exceptional group benefits package, including a spending account and a robust wellness program
  • Fantastic opportunity to grow with the team and help shape the strategic direction of the OMA, its members, and the health-care system
