Interim Senior Director, Fund Development at JA Central Ontario


Reporting to the President and CEO, the Interim Senior Director, Fund Development is an innovative and collaborative leader. You will lead the fund development team to grow and deepen support from all sources of giving including corporate and community partnerships, corporate philanthropy, fundraising events, and individual giving, in alignment with JA Central Ontario’s mission and strategic plan.


As a member of the executive leadership team, you collaborate with the President & CEO on the development of the fund development strategy. Together you ensure the development plan is aligned with the organization’s strategic plan and annual operating goals.


You will lead the fund development team in a manner that reflects JA Central Ontario’s values. You are passionate about education, have an entrepreneurial spirit, and are motivated by stretching toward bold goals.


Key Responsibilities


Leadership, Strategy, Donor and Team Management (75%)


  • Establishes strong working relationships with local businesses, corporations, and foundations to grow and build a pipeline of new prospects and growth opportunities.
  • Ensures partnerships offer shared value, including relevant and unique value propositions, developing partnership constructs, and leading contract negotiations.
  • Empowers and leads their team to build and maintain exceptional relationships with current and prospective partners and donors across the region, delivering on targets.
  • Develops and oversees a diversified fund development portfolio, from strategy development through implementation.
  • Leads and ensures the successful delivery of signature fundraising and stewardship events (i.e., Governors’ Celebration), achieving financial and stewardship goals.
  • Leads staff assigned to the portfolio, in alignment with the values, policies, and procedures of JA Central Ontario.
  • Models JA Central Ontario’s values, building an exceptional workplace culture.
  • Oversees all aspects of donor and partner relationship management, including prospecting, solicitation, grant reporting, stewardship, and communicating results.
  • Works collaboratively with JA Canada on national partnerships and opportunities.
  • Attends events on behalf of the organization as a senior executive.
  • Provides outstanding stewardship to partners and donors, maximizing retention and engagement.
Governance (10%)


  • Works with the Board of Directors, the Board of Governors, and the President & CEO to identify and cultivate donors, sponsors, and partners.
  • Acts as lead staff support for the Fundraising Advisory Committee.
Collaborate, Communication, and Reporting (15%)


  • Effectively collaborates with other necessary departments to achieve goals.
  • Creates, implements, and monitors annual department performance.
  • Provides input to reports and prepares briefings for senior management and the Board of Directors, participating in meetings and committees as required.
  • Ensures adherence to fundraising policies and procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate use and recognition of donor/partner funds.


Qualifications And Experience Required


  • 6-8 years recent, related professional experience in a charity, educational institution, or corporate social responsibility program environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team toward stretch revenue targets.
  • A recognized fundraising certification or CFRE designation is an asset.
  • Proficiency in business productivity tools, devices, and cloud-based platforms (including Salesforce CRM).
  • Record of accomplishment in developing and managing a revenue portfolio exceeding $2.5MM.
  • University degree in a related discipline (such as non-profit and/or fundraising management, business administration), or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience working with senior level relationships and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of CRA charitable receipting requirements.

Compensation


The salary range for this position begins at $110,000 and can be negotiated based on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, professional development support, and generous paid time-off.

Workplace Environment

  • Occasional travel within the service region, as required.
