Job Description
ABOUT ONEX:
Onex is an investor and asset manager that invests capital on behalf of Onex shareholders and clients across the globe. Formed in 1984, we have a long track record of creating value for our clients and shareholders. Onex became a public company in 1987 and is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol ONEX.
Onex has $48.4 billion in assets under management ("AUM"), of which $33.5 billion is fee-generating and $7.9 billion is Onex' own investing capital. Onex' two primary businesses are Private Equity and Credit. In Private Equity, we raise funds from third-party investors, or limited partners, and invest them, along with Onex' own investing capital, through the funds of our private equity platforms: Onex Partners and ONCAP. Similarly, in Credit, we raise and invest capital across several private credit, public debt and public equity strategies. Our investors include a broad range of global clients, including public and private pension plans, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies and family offices. In addition, through our private wealth platform, we service high net worth clients in Canada.
With offices in Toronto, New York, New Jersey, Boston and London, Onex and its experienced management teams are collectively the largest investors across Onex' platforms.
ABOUT ONEX PRIVATE EQUITY:
When Onex was founded in 1984, the private equity industry was in its infancy. Private equity has grown in popularity amongst long-term investors because returns to investors have consistently outperformed underlying public markets. As practiced by Onex, private equity empowers management teams to make the changes needed to grow and improve their businesses – without the pressure of quarterly earnings targets. Long-term value creation is our only goal.
After 19 years of successful investing, we formed Onex Partners in 2003. Onex Partners is our private equity platform focused on larger investment opportunities. At Onex Partners, we principally target investment opportunities in the United States, Canada and Europe that require $200 million or more of initial equity capital. Onex' private equity platform follows a disciplined investment process and devotes considerable resources to researching and understanding the industries within which it invests. Onex Partners invests across four sectors; Services; Industrials; Healthcare, and Financial Services. Onex' private equity investing has generated a gross multiple of capital invested of 2.6 times and a 27% gross IRR on realized, substantially realized and publicly traded investments.
In 2000, we formed ONCAP, our private equity platform for middle and smaller market investment opportunities. At ONCAP, we principally target investment opportunities in the United States and Canada that require less than $200 million of initial equity capital. ONCAP's philosophy is predicated on partnering with great management teams, applying appropriate capital structures, and working to create shareholder value at each operating company over the long term. ONCAP typically makes fewer investments than most other private equity firms and leverages the resources and experience of the ONCAP team and Onex Corporation to make every investment successful. ONCAP considers investment opportunities in a wide range of industry sectors. As part of the process to identify investment opportunities, the ONCAP team devotes considerable resources to identify and develop a strong understanding of industries and their risk factors and growth potential. Examples of industries where ONCAP has significant experience include: Agriculture; Automotive / Heavy-Duty Aftermarket; Building Products; Business Services; Consumer Products / Services; Education & Training; Environmental / Engineering Services; Healthcare; Industrial; and Packaging & Plastics. ONCAP has completed 29 investments and has generated a 4.2x gross multiple of capital invested and a gross compound annual internal rate of return ("IRR") of 41.7% on its 14 realized or public traded investments. ONCAP has never suffered a capital impairment on any realized investment.
