Some Of What You Will Do

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Reporting, this role ensures the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the financial reporting for Staples Canada. This role is a key contributor to the financial statements, their accompanying notes and the MDA. The Senior Manager, Corporate Reporting will build relationships and work collaboratively with members of the finance team and the business. Primary responsibilities will also include evaluation of accounting developments and financial reporting implications of business developments.

Specifically, You Will

• Evaluate the existing month-end, quarter-end and year-end processes and implement improvements that result in faster publication of the financial statements
• Cultivate a continuous improvement mindset within the finance team
• Review materials prior to Business Initiatives Committee evaluation
• Key point of contact with auditors on all technical accounting issues, and provide assistance/support for audits of such issues
• Responsible for monitoring and implementation of accounting developments
• Develop and review analyses, reporting and reconciliations to measure profitability and success against targets and the business case
• Partner with the business to assess business and alignment initiatives, collaborate with cross functional teams to gather information, and provide a point of view on the financial implications
• Build accurate and complete financial models of initiatives and valuation models of potential acquisition targets
• Build and foster relationships with the business, IT and other Finance areas to evaluate and support initiatives
• Support and liaise with the external auditors in their execution of audits and reviews
• Responsible for the financial statements, their accompanying notes and the MDA
• Other projects and ad hoc requests as required
• Effectively plan, supervise and execute implementation/transition of projects/initiatives in accordance with all relevant IFRS, professional standards and company policies
• Responsible for the forecasting and budgeting of the balance sheet, working capital and cash flows
• Assist in M&A evaluation, due diligence and integration as required
• Partner with and provide guidance on complex accounting issues
• Assist in evaluating services, products or businesses to be created, acquired or disposed
• Participate in financial and operational due diligence and project manage activities of cross functional teams, including external consultants and advisors, if necessary
• Evaluate the existing accounting processes that are inputs into the preparation of the financial statements and drive improvements to existing workflows resulting in improved accuracy, efficiencies and/or cost savings
• Lead the implementation of systems and solutions with a finance impact

• Extensive knowledge with 5 to 10 years of progressive finance experience
• Takes ownership and initiative
• ERP Oracle experience is an asset
• University degree in accounting, business or a related field
