Our client, SunGrid Solutions, is seeking an experienced and strategic Human Resources executive join our rapidly growing team.
We are looking for a mission and values-focused leader who can roll up their sleeves and take SunGrid to the next level of growth. The ideal candidate is a thought leader who brings a progressive approach to people and culture – an expert who operates with an “owner mindset”, has scaled massively successful teams in past, and effectively coaches other leaders to maximize the capability of their teams.
The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in renewables and sustainability and will be an expert in building teams and cultures in hyper growth/scale-up environments. This person will have the know-how to activate foundational and strategic HR priorities that enable execution, ownership, discipline, and continuous learning across teams both in Canada and the U.S.
Preference will be given to candidates who can work onsite at either the Houston, TX or Cambridge, ON office, however remote work with travel to these locations will be considered for the right candidate.

About the Opportunity
As a key partner to the CEO and executive team, this position balances strategic and tactical approaches, providing leadership, mentorship and expert direction in the development, implementation and ongoing iteration of programs, services, policies, systems, and processes.
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and manage the Houston-based Human Resources team, providing guidance, support, accountability, and mentorship.
- Identify the capabilities, competencies and attributes needed to sustain growth and inform organizational design.
- Collaborate with leadership to design and implement compensation and benefit programs.
- Combine a data-driven approach and strong project management skills to launch, evaluate, and enhance people programs, policies and procedures
- Drive talent management initiatives including career development, succession planning, and employee retention, with a focus on high-volume recruitment and performance.
- Function as a hands-on, strategic partner to the business in designing and implementing a scalable people and culture strategy aligned with the company’s overall mission.
- Actively and continuously be involved in all areas of HR, growing the team, ensuring legal compliance, payroll & benefits, workplace health and safety, technological capability, recruitment, training, and more.
- Lead efforts to maintain an inclusive culture that values diversity, collaboration, innovation and mutual respect.
- Implement approaches to objectively assess and improve employee performance and accountability.
- Support day-to-day employee relations by working with leaders and employees to improve work relationships, build engagement, and increase productivity and retention.
- Provide sound guidance and support to leaders and employees on people-related issues.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations - maintain up-to-date knowledge of HR best practices.
- Report directly to the CEO and support employees across Canada & US operations.
- Develop and deliver effective training programs to enhance leadership and employee skills.
- Craft talent-attraction plans focused on building employment branding, positive reputation, robust candidate pipelines, and data insights for decision-making.
Qualifications:
Must Haves…
- CPHR, SHRM or similar designation required
- Experience advising and collaborating at the executive level, with demonstrated success building trust and credibility for the HR function
- Experience founding the HR discipline and implementing fundamental HR policies, procedures, and practices successfully
- Experience being accountable for key business functions such as budgets, annual plans, and critical stakeholder communications
- Minimum of 4 years of senior leadership experience
- Experience using HR technologies (HRIS, ATS etc.)
- Minimum of 10 years of Human Resources generalist experience, with significant experience in a scale-up, hyper-growth environment
- Excels at building positive relationships and cohesive communities at all levels of the organization
- Diploma or degree or equivalent business experience, preferably focused in Human Resources or a closely related technical field
Strong Assets
- Knowledge of both Canadian and US employment legislation
- Significant experience with high volume recruitment
- Experience in renewables or a related industry
- Experience leading in a regional capacity, preferably across Canada and US

Location & Travel
- Periodic travel to SunGrid locations in Canada and US required
- Currently resides within a 50-km radius of Cambridge ON, or Houston, TX and be willing to commute to the office daily is highly preferred.
