We have an upcoming opening for aMaternity Leave Term Position- with possibility of staying on with firm growth - on-site in our new modern office in Gasoline Alley!

CGL TAX is accepting resumes for an upcoming maternity leave term position working on-site in our Red Deer office to service our clients.


While we are trying to hire someone full-time, we are open to a job-share arrangement with two part-time individuals for the right candidate(s).Please indicate your preference in your cover letter.


Thelatestanticipated start date would be September 11, 2023, and casual hours prior to that date may be available.

Responsibilities will vary based on your specific skill set, however, preference will be given to those with experience in customer service and ability to create document automations, macros, and templates for the entire office to use using Microsoft products like Word and Excel.

The biggest responsibility will be bringing a positive attitude to the workplace and assisting all your co-workers while working in an extremely positive and flexible team environment.

Job Duties

  • Organizing, scanning, and converting paper documents into electronic format.
  • Collaborate with other staff members to effectively work together in order to achieve team success
  • Respond to client questions and queries where possible
  • Maintain and update contact information of clients, vendors, colleagues, and referral sources.
  • Investigate and correct discrepancies/irregularities in outgoing letters and documents, and reports, like names, addresses, spelling errors, etc. before they are sent.
  • Build client relationships, through your interaction, care and support through ourCGL Business-Class Experience™service model.
  • Provide administrative support and assistance to the production team with client records, gathering and sorting information, personal tax returns and other tax compliance slips ensuring compliance with government standards.
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and assist in the implementation to improve work processes
  • Engage and follow up with clients to improve Interact with clients to request additional information.
  • Assume responsibility and be self-driven to identify risk areas in a file and meet time-pressured regulatory deadlines
  • Responsibility for incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
  • Work with multiple accounting software packages and provide support in gathering information from them or for them
  • Raise identified technical issues with the engagement manager
  • Collaborate with production team prior to the commencement of client work to discuss roles, responsibilities, and deadlines
  • Navigate personal tax returns, GST, and other tax compliance (T4 and T5 slips) to aid in providing valuable information to the team upon request while ensuring compliance with government standards
  • Update colleagues on the progress of clients in your workflow on a regular basis
  • Work with and have a quick ability to learn several different types of software packages (including ones you may not have used yet) and provide support to clients
  • Develop a thorough understanding of CGL Tax services, businesses, and industry
  • Provide internal administrative support duties like scanning and sorting client records as a key member of the production team

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Experience working with multiple bookkeeping software packages both online and on desktop including Xero, Sage50, and QuickBooks
  • Formal Office Administration and/or Business Administration training (Certificate or Diploma) is preferred.
  • Advanced computer literacy and proficiency to learn new software quickly
  • Proficient working experience in the following applications, will also be considered an asset. Please list any that apply in your application as well as any others you have experience using and at what level. - HubDoc, WagePoint, TaxCycle, DoxCycle, CaseWare, SharePoint, Power Automate, PowerPoint, FormStack, MailChimp, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe PhotoShop, Citrix ShareFile, RightSignature, WagePoint, GoProposal, Zapier, Zoom, Microsoft Teams Video Phone Calls, Calendly (Levels: Beginner – Intermediate - Proficient – Advanced – Expert)
  • Additional Preference will be given to formal bookkeeping, accounting, or computer programming training.
  • Solid understanding of business and accounting principles
  • Experience of at least 2 years of customer-facing administrative experience in a deadline-driven environment
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook are an asset.


Additional Assets


  • Relevant work experience in a public accounting firm, law firm, or medical office are assets
  • Recent experience in using Zoom or Microsoft Teams video conferencing software to interact with the public and co-workers in a professional work environment
  • Experience in running your own business, working in a family-run business, or earning results-based remuneration like commissions so you can personally relate to our clients

Compensation


  • Employee profit-sharing program
  • Base hourly wage will be based on experience and education.
  • Up to $400/month Health Spending Account (of which, up to 20% can be allocated to a Wellness Spending Account)
  • Up to 40 hours/year (2%) paid personal leave able to be taken in as small as 4-hour increments
  • 3 weeks (6%) vacation pay
  • Ability to work additional hours during busy period so to bank those hours and take as paid time off during slow periods while also allowing for flexible or compressed scheduling
  • New client recruitment commissions
  • Preferential screeningwill be given to those that provide their base hourly wage expectation range after considering the rest of our remuneration package below.
  • The remaining will be retroactive to the hire date after a 3-month probationary period:
  • Dialogue - Complete Suite Integrated Health Platform: (Virtual Primary Care; Employee Assistance Program; Mental Health+ including Internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; and Wellness Programs)
