Research and Special Projects Coordinator


Reporting to the Director, College Student Success Innovation Centre, the Research and Special Projects Coordinator is a dynamic, energetic, and enthusiastic individual who enhances Mohawk College’s Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Priorities. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating operational and research activities within the College Student Success Innovation Centre.


The Scope Of Responsibilities Include


  • Project coordination, such as ensuring all elements of a project are designed, implemented and delivered as per approved protocols;
  • Research activities, such as conducting literature reviews, focus groups and writing reports and research proposals;
  • Program administration, such as tracking project expenses and supporting student research staff


Responsibilities


The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:


Research Activities


  • Conducting comprehensive literature searches and summaries
  • Coordinating and conducting telephone or Zoom interviews and in-person or virtual focus groups
  • Drafting research proposals for internal and external funding
  • Writing and submitting Research Ethics Board (REB) applications
  • Assisting with knowledge dissemination (i.e., manuscripts for publication, papers/posters for presentation, interim and final reports, briefing notes, etc.)
  • Overseeing data collection and analysis processes
  • Analyzing results and preparing draft reports and summaries


Project Coordination


  • Coordinating team meetings and teleconferences
  • Ensuring protocols and procedures are followed and deliverables deadlines are met
  • Organizing meetings with stakeholder groups, research partners, faculty, students, etc.


Program Administration


  • Administrative duties such as ensuring project and financial records are maintained, filed, and stored appropriately; maintaining the Centre’s website
  • Facilitating the recruitment and training of student researchers and providing daily support and guidance to the CSSIC team as per approved research protocols and job descriptions


Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


The successful candidate will have:


  • Research Ethics and Administration – demonstrated ability to conduct ethical research in a college setting.
  • Language Proficiency – strong communication and writing skills.
  • Strong Organization and Multi-Tasking Skills – demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and issues at the same time. Knowledge or experience with project management would be an asset.
  • Computer Proficiency/Experience - proficiency in/experience with business computer applications including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, in addition to Internet researching skills and experience using a Content Management System (CMS). Ability to learn and adapt to new software applications is important.
  • Academic Writing & Presentations – demonstrated ability to synthesize and summarize literature and data clearly in research reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
  • A 4-year degree in the field of Education, Student Affairs/Services or another field relevant to college student success is required, plus professional certification in a relevant field or equivalent. A Master’s Degree in the field of Education, Student Affairs/Services or another field relevant to college student success would be an asset
  • Student & Adult Learning and Development – demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and adult learning and development theories, approaches and best practices.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working professionally in post-secondary student services, including significant experience leading independent or team research projects
  • Problem Solving, Judgment and Decision Making - good judgment and problem solving when working with students, faculty and staff.
  • Approachable and Relatable to all members of College Community – demonstrated ability to positively relate to students, faculty, staff, administration and the general public in a variety of situations (one-on-one and in groups).
  • Team-Oriented - demonstrated interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively in a team environment.
