Mohawk College is currently recruiting for our next


Health, Safety and Wellness Coordinator


Reporting to the Director, Employee Health, Safety, and Wellness, the OHS and Wellness Coordinator supports the OHS and Wellness team by administering programs, researching and supporting hazard reduction activities and initiatives, providing support to the Joint Health and Safety Committees (JHSC’s), supporting the administration of Disability Management files, and responding to client inquiries. The incumbent provides subject matter expertise on resolving OHS issues.


Responsibilities


The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:


Coordination and Administration – Health and Safety


  • Monitors and maintains WHMIS program, including training, tracking, compliance audits.
  • Supports training initiatives including conducting research, providing content, supporting delivery, compliance efforts and calendar planning.
  • Follows up on all injury reports for root cause analysis.
  • Utilizes and maintains case management software to compile data and statistics, provides regular reports, informs program development.
  • Supports development and maintenance of OHS programs.
  • Monitors to ensure First Aid requirements are met, including maintaining list of designated first aid support and ensuring training requirements are maintained.
  • Provides first level response to routine Health and Safety questions and triages OHS issues based on complexity and areas of expertise.
  • Creates communications and resources material for OHS awareness raising and injury prevention.


Coordination and Administration – Wellness and Disability Management


  • Creates communications and resources material for Wellness awareness raising and workplace wellness initiatives.
  • Attends Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings as a resource to the committee, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Resource to Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Supports development and maintenance of wellness programs.
  • Researches leading wellness trends, develops wellness resources and supports initiatives in response to employee needs.
  • Provides support to disability case file management, including tracking case files, supporting return to work process, reporting, and liaising with HRC and managers.
  • Follows up on recommendations from workplace inspections, supporting timely implementation.


Other Duties And Initiatives


  • Performs other duties, projects and initiatives.


Qualifications


The successful applicant must have:


  • A minimum 3 year post-secondary Diploma or Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety, or related role.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
