Salary Range: $78,295 - $97,869

HR Content Instructional Designer


Work Would Be Focused On, But Not Limited To, Building Or Enhancing Curriculum, Learning Outcomes, Course Outlines Related To


The role, reporting into the Director of People and Organizational Development would support the College wide people strategy with the creation, design and development of Mohawk specific materials, guides, eLearning and instructor led training, using multi-media and a variety of formats/methods.Working in support of and in collaboration with Human Resources and College wide SME, outcomes would be tied to the people strategy, with a focus on initiatives related to employee training, learning and development.


  • Manager onboarding for Managers of Admin, Support and Faculty
  • New Employee onboarding
  • Training related to compliance/regulatory and mandatory training


Responsibilities


The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:


Design and develop Multi-formatted Training for Employees


  • Design storyboards, scripts, course builds using Mohawk’s LMS and Articulate Rise, or designated authoring tools.
  • Ensure all training materials are clear, concise, consistent, and instructionally sound; maintain and update as needed all training materials, handbooks, user guides.
  • Construct learning objectives for optimal assessment of learning retention.
  • Develops training content and train-the-trainer materials that are accessible and AODA compliance.
  • Research and or explore new learning strategies, trends and training techniques related to the design and development of training, learning and development initiatives for continuous improvement.
  • Engaging with the Director or OD Consultant to determine which existing online courses and/or modules should be reviewed and updated, where applicable.
  • Develop content using multi-media to create a variety of training programs in the following methods; Asynchronous (self-directed eLearning), Virtual using Zoom or Microsoft Teams, Instructor led face to face or Hybrid.
  • Conduct needs/gap analysis in existing training materials for improved learning experiences.
  • Create and use established templates as a guide when reviewing course content and materials provided by subject matter experts, documenting gaps and/or suggesting areas of improvement from a learner perspective.
  • Utilize Instructional design, adult learning methods and practices and educational technologies to design for multi-media and presentation methods to create impactful learning content and experiences in engaging formats.


Working at Mohawk Learning Management System (LMS)


  • Face to Face Programs
  • The above modalities would include creating engaging, interactive and effective courses that include interactivity, videos and evaluations.
  • Design and create courses that include individual and team activities and case studies.
  • Asynchronous (Self-Directed eLearn) Programs
  • Hybrid Programs
  • Virtual Programs
  • Delivery modalities would include:
  • Working with the Talent Management System Specialist and OD team to ensure content is compatible with Mohawk’s LMS including.


Relationship and Partnership


  • Partner with subject matter experts to ensure programs reflect our diverse employee population and are inclusive and reflective of our values and aspirations.
  • Liaise with SMEs as required, throughout the design and development process for content validation.
  • Work with Talent Management System Specialist, & Organizational Development Team to align programs within the Working at Mohawk System.
  • Scheduling regular meetings and/or communications with subject matter experts throughout the course design process.
  • Seek out existing course content from SME and provide templates for content updates.
  • Partner and collaborate with the HR team and other people of interest to identify training needs and gaps related to training as outlined in the People Strategy to support the employee experience.


Project Management and Quality Assurance


  • Reviewing and editing course content for proper grammar and spelling and learning practices that engage the learner.
  • Meet all deadlines providing sufficient time for proofreading as well as review with SME and or facilitators.
  • Ensuring course and/or module meets quality standards as outlined in the quality assurance checklist including compliance with AODA requirements.
  • Reviews feedback and or evaluations to make necessary or needed enhancements or changes as required or directed.
  • Develop measurement and evaluation tools to test the effectiveness of the training developed.
  • Effectively manage training projects and prioritization, including anticipating and escalating project issues appropriately as they develop.
  • Create a project plan and establish a project schedule for courses, modules or curriculum, including task deadlines and deliverables.
  • Adhere to standards related to intellectual property, copyright law, design principles and branding standards related to the College practices.


Other Duties


  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in committees and working groups as assigned.
  • Participates in regular team meetings.


Qualifications


The successful applicant must have:


  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously using appropriate project management tools and techniques.
  • 4 Year degree or equivalent - a minimum of 4-year degree in education, adult education, instructional design, education technology or related field, business administration. Post graduate degree in Human Resources or Learning and Development is highly preferred/desired.
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively inter-culturally with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
  • Experience working with SME’s and working within a Human Resources department and experience in the design of programs related to the employee experience.
  • Prior experience working in a corporate or post-secondary environment.
  • A certificate in instructional design, adult education, or e-learning or E ducation or Certification in Adult Education or Certification in Learning and Development.
  • Five years of experience using project management and instructional design expertise in online learning, eLearning, instructional design, digital resources related field.
  • Experience incorporating technology and media to enhance instructional methods and improve the learners' educational experience.
  • Professional development courses in instructional design, educational technology, UDL, HTML or CSS.
  • Proven skill in communicating effectively and building relationships with clients.
  • Project management courses or designation considered an asset.
  • Certificates or courses in Learning Management Systems (LMSs), web design, multimedia, or software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Articulate Storyline, conferencing tools or other educational technology or communication software.
