Job Description

Job Summary:

The Squamish Helping Hands Society, a non-profit organization operating in an unionized environment, is seeking a dedicated and experienced HR Advisor to oversee all aspects of human resources management within the organization in collaboration with the HR Administrator. The HR Advisor will play a critical role in supporting the mission of the organization by ensuring effective recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and fostering a positive work culture.

Hours: Full time or Part time, 0.6 of FTE


Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Selection:

  • Develop recruitment strategies, including advertising, sourcing, and interviewing candidates.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations, and union agreements in all recruitment process
  • Oversee the selection process, including conducting interviews, reference checks, and making hiring recommendations.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop comprehensive job descriptions.
  • Developing a learning hub for staff members and streamlining the onboarding process


Employee Relations:

  • Conduct investigations into complaints and recommend appropriate actions to resolve conflicts.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment-related issues.
  • Facilitate communication between management and employees, ensuring transparency and open lines of communication.
  • Promote a positive work environment and address employee concerns and grievances in a fair and timely manner.


Performance Management:

  • Develop and implement performance management systems, including goal-setting, performance appraisals, and feedback mechanisms.
  • Ensure performance management processes comply with union agreements and legal requirements.
  • Support managers in conducting performance reviews and providing constructive feedback to employees.
  • Identify opportunities for employee development and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and performance.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Conduct market research and analysis to ensure competitive compensation packages.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement employee recognition programs.
  • Oversee the administration of employee compensation and benefits programs and work safe claims in collaboration with the HR administrator and ensuring compliance with union agreements and legal regulations.


Policy Development and Compliance:

  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with labor laws, regulations, and union agreements.
  • Provide guidance and training to employees and managers on HR policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations.


HR Data Management:

  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of employee information.
  • Prepare HR reports and metrics, analyzing trends and providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee management of accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personal information, employment contracts, and training records.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (equivalent experience will be considered).
  • Experience in full-cycle recruitment, including job analysis, sourcing, interviewing, and selection.
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a union environment.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in HRIS and other HR-related software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong understanding of performance management principles and practices.
  • Solid knowledge of Canadian employment laws, regulations, and union agreements.
