Job Description

Our client is a family-owned and operated company that has grown to become one of North America’s leading manufacturers of household paper products. Irving Tissue produces both branded and private label bathroom tissue, facial tissue, paper towels, and napkins. Consumers will be familiar with its Majesta and Royale brands.


Part of a larger group of operating companies (employee population of 18,000+), Irving Tissue employees can thrive and grow their careers across several diverse operating divisions.

The Human Resources Manager will be based out of Toronto, Ontario (1551 Weston Road, M6M 4Y4). Reporting directly to the Plant Manager of the facility and indirectly to the VP Human Resources, Irving Consumer Products; this Managerial position encompasses all of the key Human Resource functions. The HR Manager will be responsible for the effective delivery of all HR fundamentals and HR processes for the site. This role is key in driving a high-performance culture and fostering and promoting our Leadership Behaviors.

Primary duties/responsibilities:

  • Maintains compliance with federal and provincial employment laws and regulations.
  • Ensure HR fundamentals/HR processes are delivered on time with the highest quality standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Ensure that various HR programs are effectively delivered, including performance management, capability development, employee engagement, disability management and onboarding.
  • Promotes and supports learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource strategy and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process inclusive of collaborating with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Provides support and guidance to HR team, management and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise.

Job Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal skills and team oriented
  • Organized with a natural inclination for planning strategy and tactics
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within cross-functional teams
  • CHRP or CHRL preferred.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Education Required: bachelor’s degree of Business, Human Resources preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Ability to teach, mentor, and coach
  • Strong sense of urgency to complete tasks
  • Years of Experience Required: 7-10 years HR experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience and knowledge of change management principles, methodologies and tools
