Overview

Capital Sports Management Inc. (CSMI) is a leading sports management company that oversees the operations of the Bell Sensplex, Richcraft Sensplex, and Cavanagh Sensplex. CSMI is committed to providing exceptional sports facilities and services to athletes, teams, and the local community. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Accounting Manager to join our finance team.

Reporting Structure:

The Accounting Manager will work closely with the General Manager of CSMI and will report directly to the Senior Director of Finance for the Ottawa Senators.

Responsibilities

Ongoing

• According to a predetermined schedule, review financial reports and analysis with department managers and/or budget owners and drive towards continual cost savings and/or efficiencies.
• Analyze actual results compared to budget, and prepare forecasts
• Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP
• Along with the relevant budget owner, lead the preparation of annual operating budgets including supporting analysis
• Develop, implement and ensure compliance with financial controls and accounting policies to ensure the integrity of the financial reporting
• Ensure all statutory requirements of the organizations are met including withholding payments, income taxes, commodity taxes, year-end reporting, legal resolutions and charitable status
• Maintain and develop schedules, reports, and analyses as required
• Lead financial reporting at Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting
• Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director, Finance
• Supervision of one staff accountant
• Prepare cash flow reports and forecasts

Periodic

• Interview, hire, train, monitor, and motivate direct reports
• Assist with the completion of direct reports’ performance appraisals as appropriate
• Responsible for recommending changes in the basic structure and organization of the accounting department to ensure objectives are met
• Liase with external auditors and tax advisors or other consultants as necessary

Job Requirements

• Proficient in MS Office
• Able to work in a team environment and manage staff
• Minimum of 5 years progressive accounting experience with an emphasis on financial reporting and analysis
• University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management/Administration
• Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills
• Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills to evaluate alternatives and provide recommendations for business issues
• Professional accounting designation
• Knowledge of GAAP and NPO accounting and internal control principles
• Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation affecting corporations, partnerships, and charities
