Job Description

Gosai Law Professional Corporation is a law firm located in Etobicoke, Ontario and practices in the areas of personal injury, Family Law, Will & Estates ad Real Estate Law.

We are currently seeking a confident and experienced financial professional that is able to apply their financial background to the overall financial management of the firm. Gosai Law offers a team environment, competitive compensation, benefits and the ability to work remotely 2 days a week.

Reporting to the Managing Partner, this role is responsible for the managing and overseeing of Gosai Law’s accounting and finance functions while ensuring proper controls are in place and maintained.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial statements for reporting on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Preforms bank reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Reports on subledger and general ledger reconciliations, trust history reports and reconciliations and the investigation of variance analysis details.
  • Perform all data entry of cash receipts and disbursements for the trust account in the accounting systems.
  • Prepares and reconciles filing of all transaction levies and submits payments to the Law Society.
  • Performs all client billing functions and other accounts receivable functions.
  • Processes payroll and remits statutory payments.
  • Perform all data entry of cash receipts and client costs in billing and accounting systems.
  • Process hard costs disbursements, by posting them to the matter and making sure payment is arranged.
  • Manages banking relationships.
  • Pay vendor bills and manage accounts payable.
  • Manages wire payments, EFT, bank deposits, client cheques and credit card transactions.
  • Coordinates with external accountants, including preparation of year-end financial documents and attends to all communication with accountants.
  • Maintains all accounting and financial records of Gosai Law including the general accounts, trust accounts, cash management, accounts receivable/payable, collections, corporate expenditures and summary financial statements.
  • Provides analysis, interpretation and projections to the Managing Partners, as required.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Prepares and manages the distribution of annual reports for all trust accounts.

The successful candidate ideally has the following qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and cohesively with the Managing Partners
  • Demonstrates professional demeanor, ability to maintain confidentiality, high ethical standards.
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Finance and Accounting or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of business accounting reports, accounting concepts and techniques and the ability to synchronize accounting principles with Gosai Law’s goals and objectives.
  • Working knowledge of PC Law and other computer systems used at Gosai Law
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication (verbal and written)
  • Must have a min. 3 years' experience in a similar position, ideally with a law firm.
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to multi-task and tight deadlines.

· 3-5 years experience in Accounting Environment within a law firm;

· Focus on accuracy;

· Intelligent business acumen, able to understand what’s important for our business and act accordingly;

· Positive attitude and commitment

· Team player who is willing to support the team as needed;

· Dedicated individual who is willing to learn and take on new challenges;

· Experience in legal environment or professional services considered an asset;

  • · Real Estate accounting experience considered an asset.
