Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Policy, Research & Strategic Communications, this is an exciting role that provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with various business groups across the company and government to advance key policy priorities and respond to the needs of BC Hydro’s customers.
The successful candidate:
* Enhances BC Hydro’s proactive, coordinated approach in advancing shared key organizational priorities with the provincial government.
* Liaises across government to brief officials about BC Hydro's business and areas of shared priorities, including climate action and affordability.
* Strengthens BC Hydro's ability to coordinate with government on priority issues and builds on our existing capability to support and respond.
* Prepares and presents internal and external briefing materials that provide clear policy recommendations and present complex policy issues in a clear and easily understandable way.
* Monitors, analyzes and reports on key trends impacting the energy utilities sector.
* Prepares briefing materials for key government activities, including the Estimates Debate. Deals with confidential and sensitive material from the business groups and from the provincial government.
* Lead the development of the Annual Service Plan Report and Service Plan and supporting materials, working collaboratively with government staff and BC Hydro business groups.
* Builds relationships with subject matter experts, stakeholders and senior leaders across BC Hydro and the Province of B.C.
* Coordinates and strengthens relationships with key contacts and builds new working relationships in additional areas of government.
Qualifications:
* A university degree in a related discipline such as political science, public policy, communications, economics, energy or finance.
* Three (3) - five (5) years of relevant policy and/or communications experience in a highly collaborative, deadline-driven environment.
* Recent and relevant experience working with senior public sector executives is an asset.
* Experience with preparing briefing materials including conducting independent analysis of factors that impact corporate and/or public policy would be an asset.
* Demonstrated ability to achieve business plan objectives through work with stakeholders within a government or public sector organization.
* Excellent oral and written communications skills, including taking complex and technical information and transforming it into clear summary points and recommendations.
* Strong presentation skills and comfort presenting briefing materials to senior government representatives and/or executives.
* Proven ability to build and maintain trusting relationships with key contacts, including decision makers and subject matter experts.
* Ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines in high volume situations with confidentialmaterials.
* Understanding of or aptitude to learn about provincial and federal policies as they relate to BC Hydro, and the legislative and regulatory framework in which BC Hydro operates.
