IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY
Interim Director, Laboratory Services
Duration: 3 - 6 months
Reports: SVP Corporate Services
Location: GTA, Ontario
Our client, a high-profile health care organization, is looking for an experienced laboratory professional to join their team to help them manage through a period of growth and significant increases in operational activities. Reporting to the SVP Corporate Services, the director is accountable for leading a diverse and talented team on an operational level and working with the management group to drive key projects. This is a fantastic assignment for an experienced professional who loves a challenge, coaching talent and change management.
Key Accountabilities:
- Establish and ensure quality indicators are developed, implemented, evaluated, and reported.
- Promote and support opportunities for education and staff development.
- Provide ongoing performance feedback to direct reports and ensures organizational performance management program requirements are met.
- Coach, lead and inspire a diverse and talented team over multiple sites.
- Ensure services and personnel are compliant with all relevant international, federal, provincial, and professional standards, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable laws, through the development, teaching and monitoring of appropriate policies and procedures.
- Plan, implement, and administer any changes necessary to re-organize the operational management of the departments.
- Provide expertise and counsel to managers on financial and human resource issues.
- Oversee short-term and long-term facility and equipment planning processes.
- Accountable for oversight of recruitment, hiring, credentialing, training, discipline, and termination processes.
- Ensure service meets student teaching and research standards.
- Ensure adherence of practices to the policy and procedure and applicable hospital-labour agreements.
- Accountable for continuous analysis and reporting on initiatives to improve both the effectiveness and efficiency of services.
- Authorize and approve operating & capital expenditure.
- Ensure effective processes for selection and procurement of equipment and technology.
Competencies and Requirements:
- Demonstrated skills in strategic/operations planning and management.
- Certificate of Medical Laboratory Technologist and being in good standing with the CMLTO or Certificate of Medical Radiation Technologist and member in good standing with CMRTO.
- Well-developed negotiation and conflict management/resolution skills.
- Proven mentoring and coaching skills.
- Self-directed, highly motivated, and capable of handling and prioritizing multiple priorities and demanding timelines.
- Master's degree (MBA, MHA) preferred.
- Superior knowledge of applicable legislative, professional practice and accreditation requirements.
- Baccalaureate Degree in a relevant field required.
- Systems lateral thinking - can work well across hospitals, hospital programs, service modalities/disciplines, clinical departments and regionally.
- Excellent knowledge of hospital and service policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols, and practices.
- Demonstrated experience and success in capital and equipment planning, procurement, contract negotiations and implementation.
- Proven expertise and excellent skills in the following aspects of management: financial, human resources, quality management, change management evaluation, planning and utilization.
- Excellent analytical, problem recognition and problem-solving skills.
- Post-graduate continuing education in management skills (e.g., financial management, conflict resolution, decision making) are required.
- Excellent knowledge of quality management systems and key performance indicator measurement and review.
