What We Do:
We are advancing an exciting pipeline of neurology-focused therapies, with a focus on commercializing novel treatments for epilepsy. Building upon the positive results and compelling data from our XEN1101 Phase 2b “X-TOLE” study in adult patients with focal epilepsy, our XEN1101 Phase 3 epilepsy program includes studies in adult patients with focal onset seizures and primary generalized tonic clonic seizures. In addition, XEN1101 is being evaluated as a treatment for major depressive disorder in both a company-sponsored Phase 2 clinical trial, as well as an investigator-led proof-of-concept study. We are also proud of the leading-edge science coming out of our discovery labs, where many innovative, early-stage research programs are underway. In addition to these proprietary programs, our pipeline includes clinical-stage partnered programs. Backed by a strong balance sheet to support our growth plans, we continue to build a fully integrated, premier neuroscience company with strong discovery, clinical development, corporate, and commercial operations.
About the Role:
We are seeking a Director/Senior Director, Human Resources, Systems and Data to join our team. The Director/Senior Director will be a key member of highly collaborative HR and corporate teams with responsibility for Human Resource management systems, data and reporting and for acting as a Business Partner, providing counsel, coaching and support to assigned departments, employees and managers in the U.S. and Canada.
This role will represent HR as a Business System Owner, collaborating with IT and multiple other functions in a rapidly evolving IT/IS ecosystem needed to support Xenon’s strategy to become a fully integrated biopharma company with commercial operations in the US.
The Director/Senior Director will have proven leadership ability in a fast-paced, multi-jurisdiction environment and will interact with all levels of internal staff, as well as external advisors and suppliers. This is a hands-on role with plans to grow a team in accordance with business need.
This position reports to the Executive Vice President, Human Resources and will be in either Vancouver, BC, Canada or Boston, MA, USA location in a hybrid home/in-office model.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as a champion for Xenon’s evolving culture and values
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Plan and manage budget proposals and approved budgets in accordance with the Company’s strategic and operating plans and Finance policies
  • As Business Partner, provide expert counsel to assigned departments in the US and Canada for all HR programs – workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, compensation, training and development, employee engagement and relations, succession planning, employee global mobility; collaborate with business and science leaders to coach and to ensure HR programs are optimally used by managers and employees to positively impact employee attraction, orientation, engagement, performance, development and retention
  • Act in accordance with Company policies, including, for example, the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and ensure policies are understood and followed by direct reports, if any
  • Some international travel will be required
  • Develop and propose short- and long-term goals for the department in accordance with overall Company and Human Resource strategies
  • Recruit, lead, direct, develop, coach and evaluate direct reports, if any, in accordance with the Company’s Human Resource policies and practices
  • As HR program lead for Human Resource Management Systems and Data, lead HR systems strategy in context of company-wide 5 year IT/IS plan; gather and document business requirements, as-is and to-be business process designs; direct relevant systems configuration, testing and training and change management; draft and contribute to RFPs, RFIs, scoring and evaluating relevant systems in cross functional teams; work with HR leadership to define current and future reporting requirements; lead and/or partner with other functions to prepare and execute implementation plans; develop and maintain relevant Standard Operating Procedures and other policies, procedures related to relevant data and systems; ensure accurate data flows within and amongst systems; and collaborate with IT and Finance on SOX compliance activities and with IT and Quality for 21-CFR-Part 11 compliance activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and interact with all levels in the organization
  • Excellent leadership skills with influencing, conflict resolution and collaboration skills; ability to build credibility and trust inside and outside of the Company
  • At minimum a relevant undergraduate degree; MBA, Master’s in Human Resource Management or Management Systems; Project Management and/or HR certification preferred
  • Ability to multi-task, propose and establish priorities in accordance with Company objectives
  • Strong abstract reasoning and critical thinking skills, strong business acumen
  • High level of empathy, maturity and sound judgment, ability to balance business needs with the role of employee advocate
  • Knowledge of and experience with US employment, privacy, human rights and immigration laws
  • Highly proactive, with a strong track record of delivering high quality results
  • 15+ years of experience in progressive HR management systems and business partner roles in a public, multi-national company – strongly preferred in public company life sciences/pharma or engineering/technology – experiencing rapid growth and change
