The Director, Human Environment (HE) plays a key role within the Sustainability business, exerting significant influence on the strategic planning for the group. The role encompasses people leadership, resource management, safety and quality, as well as execution of projects and operations management. The Director, HE will collaborate closely with internal experts at Ausenco, external communities, indigenous groups and other project stakeholders to establish and foster positive, long-term working relationships that benefit our clients and the surrounding communities.


The role may be based from any of our Canadian offices and you may be required to travel for short periods of time. We offer a flexible, hybrid work environment. If you’re the right person for the job, we are open to discussing possible remote working arrangements.


About The Role


  • Participating in business and strategic planning
  • Maintaining and growing your industry and professional knowledge and leadership skills to ensure Ausenco remains ahead of the marketplace.
  • Developing client relationships that facilitate successful delivery of projects and the maintenance of future/ongoing opportunities.
  • Developing project proposals and leading the client development process through marketing plans and strategies.
  • Seeking out and acquiring new business opportunities and acting to identify opportunities to expand the scope of existing projects.
  • Providing technical leadership in the areas of socio-economics, indigenous knowledge, traditional use and /or community engagement and consultation.
  • Motivating and leading the team to deliver exceptional service and quality projects to clients.
  • Promoting and maintaining a positive work environment through a culture of teamwork and collaboration within the office, region, and between other areas of the organization.
  • Planning for current and future workforce resourcing needs by understanding required skills and, knowledge of current and future roles, identifying successors, and executing processes and programs to recruit, develop and retain talent.


About You


We are looking for a passionate senior professional with expertise in the fields of socio-economics, indigenous knowledge, traditional use and / or community engagement and consultation coupled with operational leadership experience.


  • Extensive project / discipline management experience involving fully managing multiple projects from beginning to end.
  • Demonstrated track record of risk, financial and budget management.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive and related experience, with a minimum of two years of experience in a business management or operations leadership role.
  • Exposure to a variety of projects, sectors, multiple clients, and various degrees of project complexity. Experience within the mining sector is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining a team of professionals to support projects and the business.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Related technical qualifications including relevant undergraduate degree, with a professional designation, or ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
