Detailed Overview


In accordance with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia standards of practice, Fraser Health's vision, mission and values, and the strategic plan of Fraser Health and Integrated Long Term Care & Assisted Living, the Educator provides education, orientation and training to other health professionals in owned/operated and/or contracted sites. Provides clinical and educational support, plans, implements and evaluates educational activities and programs, and assists with the implementation of occupational therapy competencies. As a clinical resource, supports complex or challenging referrals/discharges, collaborates with other healthcare providers and gathers information for ongoing quality improvement and review. This job is expected to work at multiple community locations across Fraser Health and/or contracted sites.


Responsibilities


  • Determines education priorities that meet program and health professionals' learner needs; completes learning needs assessments of individuals or groups to assist in the determination of the educational requirements and their objectives.
  • May provide assessment and intervention services in support of programs.
  • Serves as an Occupational Therapy clinical resource for complex or challenging clients or situations and supports complex referrals/discharges such as mobility challenges and use of equipment. Develops tools to enhance the exchange of information among staff and collaborates with clinical leaders and health care team members.
  • Develops, plans and revises educational and orientation activities and programs, including online learning, based on clinical evidence, policy (e.g. clinical decision support tools), literature and resources, and education theory.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Creates supportive and interprofessional learning environments; utilizes education theory and builds strong professional relationships with learners in order to facilitate open communication. Ensures sites are informed of educational resources and opportunities.
  • Evaluates education effectiveness by measuring the outcomes, determining whether the clinical objectives have been achieved, and assessing whether learning has occurred that results in the demonstration of best practice.
  • Participates in the review, development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed clinical decisions support tools/policies.
  • Participates in quality improvement and risk management activities by methods such as evaluating effect of changes in practice, and generating recommendations for alternative approaches.
  • Plans and schedules educational activities and maintains a system for tracking attendance; maintains statistics for reporting purposes.
  • Participates on a variety of designated professional or operational committees.
  • Delivers learner-centered education to various health professionals, health care team members, and clients/caregivers through methods such as teaching, role modeling, demonstrating, mentoring, coaching, facilitating groups, providing lectures, and conducting formal presentations, including both in person and virtual formats.
  • Participates in research and special projects; promotes staff awareness and involvement in research activities.


Qualifications


Education and Experience


Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia.


Three (3) years' recent related clinical experience in a health care environment working with older adults, including one (1) year in a teaching or supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
