Vancouver Coastal Health has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join the Clinical and Systems Transformation team as a Regional Clinical Systems Educator supporting programs at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!


As a Regional Clinical Systems Educator with Vancouver Coastal Health you will


  • Work collaboratively to support Program Leadership in the effective use of the clinical systems to ensure regional standardization of clinical systems across the health authority.
  • Support the Program Leadership to support their staff in following/aligning professional practice standards with documentation practice.
  • Understand the clinical system and program automated workflows in detail and utilizes this knowledge along with both clinical knowledge and expertise, and strong technical computer skills to support the development, successful implementation, ongoing education, support and maintenance of the designated clinical application(s), e.g. Cerner, Profile EMR and PARIS.
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams, clinicians and managers through participation in relevant committees to collaborate in the planning, development and implementation of changes related to designated clinical systems policies, procedures and standards.
  • Use clinical knowledge and technical expertise, strong facilitation skills, as well as system knowledge to evaluate the impact of policies, procedures and standards; to identify clinical issues arising from implementation and to ensure that clinical practice and clinical decision requirements guide the introduction of changes to system design or functionality.
  • Work collaboratively with a variety of internal and external users of the clinical system, develops and validates detailed clinical specifications to determine system requirements and participates in user acceptance testing.


Education & Experience


  • A minimum of three (3) years' recent related experience in a community health care environment, including one (1) years’ experience in leading process improvement initiatives, development and delivery of training programs in a computerized care environment and in the use of computer based client care information systems or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid BC Drivers license. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage reimbursement is paid.
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).


Knowledge & Abilities


  • Knowledge of clinical tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload in a self directed manner.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of teaching and learning principles, methods and tools.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to facilitate group process.
  • Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client/resident/family centred model of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize workload in collaboration with others.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of computer hardware, software and communication applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, present, coach and mentor.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess learning needs, prepare training plans, develop instruction strategies and evaluate outcomes of training programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to facilitate interdisciplinary health professionals to apply technology and workflow improvement strategies to practice.
  • Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with individuals and groups in a consultative/collaborative manner.
  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in, or co-lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand change dynamics and change management processes.


The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.


As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Proof of vaccination status will be required.
