PARC Retirement Living is an award-winning developer and operator of independent senior-living communities. We’re looking for a Director of Human Resources to join our Corporate Services team in downtown Vancouver.

The Director of Human Resources will provide recommendations and input on Human Resources program development and be responsible for building an HR annual operating plan, and operationalizing standard HR programs and services. Actively look for ways to improve all HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, total compensation, and will manage HR policy development and implementation, employee training and development, retention & employee relations, and upkeep of employment standards. In this role, you will build connections with residence and corporate managers to provide them with the tools and advice they need to drive high levels of people and service excellence.


This includes:


  • Recommend to Co- CEO talent strategies to attract, develop, and retain a skilled and committed workforce to support the organization’s objectives. Communicate and work with various stakeholders to implement and maintain approved and streamlined strategies which increase the involvement of HR based on the position level.
  • In consultation with the Co- CEO, develop recommendations for an Organizational L&D program to support current skills and the development of new capabilities in support of individual career and succession planning. Provide an “HR Toolbox” for managers, with periodic updates. Implement and monitor the approved Organizational L&D program. Ensure an up-to-date suite of required training programs, eg Respectful Workplace, Serving It Right, Health & Safety.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements. Ensure the application of policies, regulations, and standards relating to occupational health and safety. Sit as a member of the Corporate Occupational Health & Safety Committee. Champion employee wellness.
  • Ensure legal compliance with federal and provincial employment standards. Set standards and advise management team on how to conduct investigations and maintain records. Attend regular employment law updates and be the main contact for employment lawyer.
  • Arrange employee engagement surveys and consult with leaders on how to improve engagement in their areas.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on complicated employee relations issues. Provide advice and counseling for managers on employee relations matters. Meet with employees during regularly scheduled property visits. Help create an organizational climate conducive to positive employee relations
  • Provide Co- CEO with total compensation data and information within the market/industry so that these decision-makers can establish a competitive total compensation plan aligned with PARC compensation philosophy. Ensure that the total rewards package is executed as per the developed plan.
  • Working with the Co- CEO and provide input on the performance management system with approach and accountability measures based on organizational philosophy, goals and objectives. Assist Co- CEO to communicate system. Work with appropriate department leaders to implement the performance management system.
  • Ensure HR Policies comply to current federal and provincial legislation and standards related to human resources. Update and communicate HR Policy changes to department managers. Advise department managers on their duties and responsibilities under these policies to ensure legal compliance and clarity of employee responsibilities and expectations.

  • You have superior verbal, written, and presentation skills and the ability to demonstrate empathy and active listening.
  • You have 8 years of experience in progressive human resources roles responsible for a broad. range of Human Resource practices including change management, employee relations, performance management, selection and retention, total compensation, learning and development and corporate social responsibility
  • You are approachable, with strong listening skills and the ability to effectively coach and support managers and employees.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office applications (i.e. PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • You bring experience leading, managing, and developing others and; know how to manage budgets, analyze financial budgets and metrics in order to make strategic HR decisions, set goals, and implement change.
  • You have a degree in Human Resource Management or related discipline or post-secondary education in human resources and business administration. CHRP designation preferred.
  • You bring a strong understanding of HR management principles and proven experience leading HR within a division or an organization along with your ability to coach and guide managers.
  • You are a self-starter with a proven ability to work independently but also thrive in a team environment.


At PARC Retirement Living we understand the importance of immunization to protect our residents, team members and visitors from COVID-19. As such, a prerequisite of employment is that all new hires are fully vaccinated as approved by Health Canada. We also require a Criminal Record Check, and a TB test within the first month of employment.
