Remote position, with potential domestic travel

The Opportunity

Canada Snowboard is seeking an experienced Controller with business acumen and fulsome finance expertise. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Controller leads the overall financial operations of the organization, overseeing a small core group of staff to ensure effective delivery of our strategic plan through specified operational goals. Provides execution and direction where required in the areas of finance, financial risk management, financial policy development, legal, and overall business planning.

Primarily contributing leadership to a management team across functional areas including business operations, high-performance sport and system development, and major events, the successful candidate will also work closely with a variety of stakeholders including our member associations and key funding partners. A fundamental understanding of good governance is required for working with and supporting a policy-driven Board of Directors.

Role and Responsibilities

Financial Management

· Provide leadership to the Finance Department

·Skills and experience in leading/managing internal & external audits

·Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting

· Prepare, analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner

· Clearly communicate quarterly and annual financial results to various stakeholders

· Complete Sport Canada and Own The Podium quarterly and annual reporting requirements

·Ensure compliance with external filings for Canada Snowboard including review of tax returns and filing of Charity returns

· Oversee, alongside project accountant – Leadership in World Cups/Major event financial management

· Oversee Inventory management and controls

· Coordinate and lead the annual audit and review engagements process, liaise with externalauditors

· Ongoing support to the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors

· Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process

· Administer and review all financial plans and forecasts on quarterly basis, monitor progress and changes and keep executive leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status

· Rigorous management of expenditures, strategic revenue generation and strong financial controls for prudent financial decision making

· Contract review and management

·Work closely and transparently with all external partners including donors, government agencies, insurers, bankers, auditors, lawyers, vendors, consultants etc

· Other duties as may be assigned

Human Resources, Governance and Policies

· People management and development including staffing and as needed, recruitment, organizational development, succession planning, performance management, staff training and change management

· Fully payroll function management

· Contribute to the Management of Canada Snowboard’s benefits plan

· Collaborate with the members of the executive and management team in the area of the ongoing risk management for Canada Snowboard operations

· Contribute to the interpretation of vision and mission to set goals and then develop and implement appropriate strategies, plans and budgets to realize them as the organization scales

· Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the Board of Directors

· Update and implement all necessary finance department’s overall policies and accounting practices

· Other duties as may be assigned

Skills and Experience Requirements

✔Degree in Accounting or Finance required

✔CPA designation required

✔Minimum of 5 years’ experience in finance management positions

✔In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with QuickBooks

✔Knowledge and familiarity of the overall Canadian sport system preferred

✔Fluent in French preferred

✔Strong analytical skills and an attention to detail

✔Proven customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written

✔Exceptional organization and planning skills

✔Proven ability to meet deadlines by proactively working on the project and taking lead and initiative on projects

✔Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
