Position: Executive Director

Location: Tumbler Ridge, NE British Columbia, Canada

Employment Type: Full-Time, one-year term contract

Compensation: Competitive salary based on skills, experience, and qualifications

Overview:


We are seeking an experienced and visionary individual with a passion for outdoor recreation and a background in business or tourism management to join TRORA as the Executive Director. Join us to be part of a dynamic organization that is shaping the future of outdoor recreation in Tumbler Ridge. Together, we can make a positive impact and create lasting change.


In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with board directors and committees to assess and address theorganization’s needs.
  • Develop an actionable plan for fundraising and managing monthly cash flow
  • Increase awareness of the organization by being the main spokesperson and liaison with local media
  • Execute daily operations of the organization, providing program strategies


The initial contract is for one year full-time with the possibility of extension, subject to funding and revenue streams.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Ensuring a safe environment for both employees and clients by adhering to applicable laws, licenses, and insurance requirements.
  • Evaluating staffing requirements and participating in recruitment activities, as necessary, depending on future funding and organizational needs.
  • Delivering progress reports to the board, shareholders, and key partners, keeping them informed of TRORA's achievements and challenges.
  • Create and execute TRORA’s Communication Strategy with the focus on increasing community awareness and engagement, being responsible for the organization's website and social media, within others.
  • Cultivating positive relationships with stakeholders, clients, and partners, fostering strong connections and collaboration.
  • Monitoring expenditures, adhering to accepted financial operating practices, and seeking opportunities for cost optimization.
  • Collaborating closely with the Economic Development & Tourism Team at the District of Tumbler Ridge and the Tumbler Ridge UNESCO Global Geopark to drive the outdoor recreation marketing strategy.
  • Developing a comprehensive Destination Management Framework and Plan to guide the organization's growth and ensure its long-term success.
  • Conducting research and writing tasks with precision, paying meticulous attention to detail and organization.
  • Assisting in the development of innovative tourism initiatives that position Tumbler Ridge as a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
  • Managing the operational budget and providing regular monthly reports to the Board of Directors, ensuring transparency and financial accountability.
  • Creating and delivering staff training, development, and evaluation programs to foster a skilled and motivated team (future consideration).


Qualifications:


  • Excellent research and writing skills, with a high level of computer literacy
  • Proficiency in grant writing is an asset for this position, as the permanent nature of the role depends on funding and income streams.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized, Ability to work effectively under pressure, seeking information and communicating in a compelling and succinct manner
  • Diploma or degree in Tourism Management, Business, or a related field
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in the Tourism sector, with a specific focus on outdoor adventure activities (preferred)
  • Knowledge of financial management and expertise in tourism product development and marketing
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, a strong drive for success, and the ability to lead, coach, and assess others
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to thrive in a remote community
