Job Description

Executive Director

Our client is an international Non-profit organization providing humanitarian and health services to Africa. This opportunity allows for a hybrid work arrangements with a min of 1 day/ week working in the Toronto office and some occasional international travel.

As the Executive Director, your responsibilities include:

  • Manage budgets, KPIs and reporting
  • Liaise with offices in Africa, Europe and the US
  • Provide operational leadership and implement the strategy in Canada
  • Building relationships with staff, funders, communities, and with partners in the nonprofit sector
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with Global Affairs Canada, foundations and corporate partners.
  • Responsible for governance and liaising with the board of directors
  • Develop sustainable revenues and fundraising
  • Strategic leadership, drive the vision, mission and values of the organization
  • Provide people leadership and support the culture

Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience supporting initiatives in Africa.
  • Demonstrated leadership in equity, diversity and inclusion policy and practice; culturally competent.
  • Extensive experience cultivating productive relationships with multiple stakeholders, nationally and internationally, including government officials, donors at all levels, global partners, NGOs, corporate executives, and corporate leaders.
  • Excellent communications skills, including demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions to people across an organization, as well as competence with media work and public speaking.
  • Proven fundraising experience with government, foundations, corporates and major donors.
  • Strong background in strategic planning within the nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to develop a structure and process to oversee the integration and interdependence of multiple organizational functions (including policies and programs)
  • University education and demonstrated work experience in related disciplines
  • Knowledge of board governance processes and board reporting in the non-profit sector.
  • Experience in the NGO sector and a solid understanding of international development issues
  • Exceptional leadership skills- managed teams of staff through direct and indirect reports, able to ensure the competencies of employees to meet organizational challenges and to perform well and productively.
