SAY is an anti-oppressive startup nonprofit run by two second generation Queer South Asian women. SAY aims to create a space for second-generation brown girls to build fearless, authentic, and creatives lives by breaking generational cycles of brown girl trauma, healing the inner child through eduation and art.
Position Overview:
Project Director to oversee the planning and execution of our upcoming programming. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for making a difference in the community. This is a volunteer position, and the Project Director will work closely with our executive team and student team to ensure the success of our projects.
Responsibilities:
- Takes an active role in fundraising efforts in Toronto, both in-person and virtually, including donor outreach, event planning, and grant writing
- Represent the organization at external events, conferences, and meetings, and participate in networking and advocacy opportunities
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, such as donors, sponsors, and partner organizations, both virtually and in-person when possible
- VOLUNTARY ROLE | HYBRID | PART-TIME
- Idea generates, takes initiative, and plays a leadership role in SAY’s community programming
- Attend 2-hour virtual weekly meetings and 30 min-1 hour independent meetings, facilitating meeting updates
- Works and communicates virtually via Calendly, Slack, WhatsApp, Notion, Google Workspace (i.e., Google Meets, Google Classroom, Google Drive, Google Sheets, Google Forms).
- Develops project plans and timelines, and communicate progress to stakeholders through virtual communication channels
- Collaborate with the SAY team and independently builds, develops, and leads projects from start to finish.
- Research grant opportunities and write grant proposals to secure funding for projects
Qualifications:
- Passion for making a positive impact in the community
- Willingness and openness to learn new skills and build new projects and communicates with transparency and accountability
- Excellent essay writing skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work independently and self-monitor, highly driven, able to keep oneself accountable, reliable
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proven experience in project management, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor's degree in a Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, field
- Passionate about breaking generational cycles, brown girl trauma, social justice, and second-generation migration
- Fast-paced high stress environment
