The Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM) advances the clinical andprofessional practice of Indigenous and registered midwives in Ontario. We are seeking a full-time Accountant to join our dynamic and progressive organization.
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources & Operations the Accountant is responsible for supporting strong financial decision-making by providing information and analysis on the AOM’s finances to the AOM’s management team and other staff. The accountant supports integrity within the AOM’s financial operations by ensuring the AOM is compliant with all regulatory bodies for not-for-profit organizations, with the AOM policies, and with funder requirements.
The successful candidate will have:
-University Degree in accounting and minimum of four years of finance/accounting experience in a moderately complex organization, or equivalent of education and experience.
-Chartered Professional Accountant Certification (CPA) or Certified General Accountant (CGA).
-Experience with complex accounting policies and procedures; experience in a not-for-profit environment is a definite asset.
-Experience in the preparation of annual and periodic budgets.
-Experience in audit practices, processes, and procedures.
-Proficient with standard bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks online and enterprise.
-Proficient with other standard office software:Office 365 platform, Asana, Ceridian Payroll. Knowledge of Dayforce software is an asset.
-Must have advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookup and pivot tables.
-Strong interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
-Able to communicate financial concepts and analysis clearly, concisely, and diplomatically, verbally and in writing.
-Strong time-management and organizational skills
-Able to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail.
-Must be able to keep matters strictly confidential.
-Ability to work independently, and in a team environment, and make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations.
-Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
This is a full-time position of 35 hours per week.
Starting Salary: $64,757 to $80,946 per year, depending on qualifications and prorated to hours worked.

Department specific responsibilities
-Provides daily, monthly, quarterly, and year-end general accounting and internal and external reporting on a timely basis.
- Supports AOM staff regarding accounting procedures by researching and interpreting accounting policies, regulations, and funder requirements.
-Supports management staff in the preparation of department budgets and reports.
-Assists management staff in understanding budget variances, their impact, and measures to mitigate variances.
-Communicates with management staff on discrepancies, variances, and allocations.
-Complies with established financial policy and procedures and provides input to the management team about required changes to policy and procedures.
-Prepares monthly financial statements in accordance with established protocols.
-Prepares variance analysis for monthly financial statements, variance reports and other reports for the Audit Committee and Board.
-Prepares, reconciles, and balances general ledger accounts, bank statements, and all other relevant assets and liability, as required.
-Prepares the annual budget in collaboration with the management team and prepares updates and forecasting as required.
-Prepares all necessary documentation for auditors, coordinates audits, provides information to auditors.
-Prepares appropriate schedules, special reports as requested by management.
-Prepares financial summaries and analysis.
-Prepares external reporting to funders, and other regulatory bodies as required.
-Prepares all documents and does filings required for regulatory compliance e.g. statutory deductions, EHT, GST, HST etc.
-Maintains the accounts payable and accounts receivable systems in collaboration with other finance staff.
-Maintains current knowledge of regulatory changes and impacts on the organization’s books of account (e.g. changes through CRA or EHT), advising managements on impact of changes on the AOM.
-Maintains an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and bookkeeping activities.
-Maintains up-to-date, complete, and systematic electronic filing system on the department’s dedicated computer drive.
- Analyze investments and maintain schedules.
-Organizes and develops accounting plan.
-Participates in ongoing automation and streamlining of financial processes.
-Track assets and maintain cash management controls.
-Maintains strict confidentiality where required.
