Responsibilities



The Senior Director, Big Tech Partnerships is responsible for pursuing and executing commercial and strategic partnerships with global Big Tech companies and the operations they have in Canada. Visa’s Digital Partnerships team works broadly across the payments and fintech ecosystem. Internally, the team works closely with the Product Organization as well as other internal stakeholders to execute on commercial and strategy partnership opportunities, and other strategic projects.


The successful incumbent in the role will require a business acumen, deep industry experience and contacts, business development experience, product knowledge, finance knowledge and an individual who can formulate and pursue strategies to find meaningful growth for Visa. The role will report to Head of Digital Partnerships for Canada as an Individual Contributor.


Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Business Development:


  • Bring and further develop vertical expertise in key client growth areas and develop segment strategies to grow Visa’s footprint within the segment.
  • Continuously review market landscape, identify developing partnership or acquisition opportunities that position Visa as the market leader.
  • Support Visa’s Global Digital Partnerships team with strategic initiatives in Canada
  • By leveraging Visa solutions across all product platforms (Issuing, New Payment Flows, Value Added Services, Risk etc), identify strategic opportunities that will help position Visa as a market leader.
  • Structure and execute commercial proposals and agreements directly with technology companies, working with their ecosystem of enablers and focusing on Visa’s core products and Value Added Services


Account Management:


  • Support Visa’s Global Digital Partnerships team as they grow the relationship with Big Tech partners in Canada


Thought Leadership


  • Provide market and client feedback to Visa Product Teams to guide roadmap and prioritization decisions, and go to market and commercialization strategies
  • Identity and help to sponsor Visa Venture investments
  • Support Public Relations and represent Visa at industry events and evangelize for Visa’s programs and strategic priorities
  • Develop an open front door narrative and approach, finding ways to support and be helpful across a wider swath of the ecosystem


This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.


Qualifications


Basic Qualifications


  • Strong business and financial acumen, and vision
  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Demonstrated track record of planning, managing and closing complex, competitive commercial deals from negotiation, to closing and through delivery
  • 5 or more years business experience with multiple business and product functions
  • Fluency in Big Tech, specifically the approach to selling to Big Techs, understanding the costs to acquire customers, run rate, etc., and crucially understanding the economic and strategic motivations of Big Tech players
  • Strong network within Fintech, payments, or banking


Preferred Qualifications


  • Ability to influence senior management and other relevant parties with tact
  • Accountable and results-oriented mindset
  • Leads by example, including enthusiasm and takes pride in their work, with a strong bias towards action
  • 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
  • Proven record of implementing strategic initiatives, policies and operational decisions
  • Proven ability to partner, communicate and manage, navigate through multiple disciplines and organizational groups
  • Strong storytelling capabilities and passion for improving financial services
  • Soft skills including genuine and open communication, active listening, compassionate, and inspires others
  • Ability to work within a complex and often ambiguous environment, with a demonstrated ability to navigate through a complex matrix organizational structure.
