Morrison Hershfield's Horizontal Infrastructure (HI) Transportation Division provides planning, design and construction administration services for roadway, highway, transit / rail, bridge, municipal, provincial and related projects. The combined skills of our engineers, technicians and support personnel with their diverse backgrounds in design and construction provide clients with a team recognized as leaders in the field.

Morrison Hershfield is currently seeking an ITS Engineer to join our Transportation ITS Department located at our Markham office. Reporting to the Manager, this position will be responsible to prepare calculations, conceptual and detailed design, technical specifications, installation details, permit / tender / post-tender services on various projects, and perform contract administration (CA) services to review shop drawings, respond to RFI’s, etc.

Responsibilities

• Resposible for certifying professional work on projects
• Document study progress/results through the preparation of memos, minutes and reports as a record of events
• Manages ongoing workload within the ITS team to ensure adequate resourcing for ongoing projects
• Prepare designs for variable message sign (VMS), closed circuit television (CCTV) camera, vehicle detection station (VDS), queue warning station (QWS), travel time (TT), communications and power subsystems
• Prepare ITS construction drawings and specifications in conjunction with our in-house highway, electrical, structural, etc. design teams
• Works with the Business Development Manager to develop proposals for the ITS engineering services provided by the team
• Conduct site visit before and during design to confirm design requirements
• Provide technical support in client meetings
• Prepare field information documentation of site visit surveys
• Solve complex design problems where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation
• Works with and supports other disciplines to ensure the ITS group aligns with the overall business objectives for the organization
• Review shop drawings and equipment submittals for compliance ITS standards and guidelines
• Adhere to corporate quality control and assurance processes for all ITS design work
• Provide field construction management support (inspections, punch list generation, and project close-out)

Qualifications

• Registration with PEO as a P.Eng., EIT maybe considered
• Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills; foreign language(s) a plus
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microstation with ability to effectively communicate design intent to CAD staff
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Electrical or Electronic Engineering with Transportation experience is preferred
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) applications
• Minimum 4 years of experience with ITS and electrical subsystems, preferably in the consulting engineering industry
• Proven ability to work exceptionally well and efficiently in a team environment with a proven strong customer service commitment
