Senior Director Transportation Solutions Freight Management

The Senior Director of Transportation reports to the VP& Business Leader of the Transportation Solutions Group and has 4+ direct reports. The Senior Director is instrumental in the strategic development of the Freight Management business unit and is responsible for providing overall leadership to functional departments including Carrier Management and Client Management. The role has direct P&L responsibilities and is a key member of the Transport Senior Management team and Metro Supply Chain’s corporate senior management group.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• In collaboration with VP, sets business unit performance goals and provides on-going direction for the business unit to achieve those objectives
• Provides leadership and direction to direct reports through coaching, supporting, and developing direct reports; establishing annual performance objectives, conducting performance assessments, and identifying opportunities for skill development.
• Ensures that business unit functional processes optimize and enhance the TMS and other IT systems capabilities
• Oversees the management of carriers and clients, participating in both client and carrier MBR and/or QBR as required
• Determines the critical projects and CI opportunities needed by the business unit and sponsors any such activities
• In collaboration with VP establishes strategic direction and development for all carrier and client focused activities.
• Has ultimate ownership of carrier contract and rate negotiations
• Leads key strategic performance objectives related to carrier management activities and communicates them to internal partners
• Provides seasoned leadership to all members of the business unit and is responsible for ensuring that the business unit’s structure & organization provides the highest levels of service to Metro’s Clients and supports the TSG 3 & 5-year strategic plans.
• In collaboration with Business Development and Solutions teams, participates in solutioning new business opportunities related to managed freight business
• Directs and supports the design of KPI compliance programs and meets regularly to ensure that overall performance KPIs are met.
• Identifies the need for any business unit training requirements and sponsors any such activities
• Leads the creation of the annual Freight Management budget and is accountable to monthly P&L results for the business unit. In collaboration with VP, is key contributor to the MBR presentation related to Freight Management
• Senior contact responsible for fostering healthy client relationships
• Conduct analysis and develop recommendations on various strategic projects that involve complex cost/benefit tradeoffs for clients, freight network optimization opportunities, market entry or exit, etc.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with data analysis tools and enablers such as MS Access, MS Excel, and Power BI
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business or Logistics Management or Transport Operations.
• Lean Six Sigma certification and project management skills are desired, but not required
• Highly knowledgeable in software systems, specifically TMS, Microsoft Office, and transport routing software. Reasonable knowledge of EDI/API technology as it relates to client & carrier integration
• 15+ years Management experience (5+ in a senior role) in 3PLTransportation field; experience with an asset-based carrier is desirable
• Prior experience in supply chain disciplines such as routing design, logistics network planning, supply/demand planning as it relates to transport, complex multi-modal solutions etc.
• Must be able to develop creative solutions to unstructured business problems and influence others through both oral presentations and written documentation
• Must possess strong communication skills, and be able to develop trusted relationships with all levels and roles in the organization as well as customers and carriers/vendors
• Ability to lead RFP projects related to carrier management activities both as a client and as a provider.
