Job Summary
Salary Pending Review
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Planning, the Transportation Planning Coordinator’s focus is to support internal and external studies related to corridor reviews, environmental assessment studies and transportation impact assessments. The position oversees the review and commentary on development applications (official plan amendments, plans of subdivision, zoning by-law amendments, and site plans) with respect to traffic impacts, traffic circulation, safety, parking, access management, transportation demand management, active transportation, and complete streets assignments.
Education
- Completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related field of study (e.g. Planning/Environmental Management/Environmental Science).
- An equivalent combination of education, experience and qualifications may be considered.
Knowledge
- 2-3 years of experience or background in computerized traffic analysis models and transportation/planning studies is preferred.
- Certified or eligible for certification with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technician and Technologists (OACETT) as a Certified Engineering Technician (CET) or equivalent related designation.
- 3-5 years of Transportation Planning experience.
- Knowledge of project development, scheduling, monitoring, and control systems.
- P.Eng. or E.I.T is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), MTO Geometric Design Standards, MTO Roadside Safety Manual, TAC Geometric Design Guidelines, Ontario Traffic Manual (Book 7 – Temporary Conditions) and all applicable legislation and regulations (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Municipal Act, etc.), and applicable contract law.
Responsibilities
- Defends the data, assumptions, procedures, methodologies, techniques and tools used to derive transportation capacity and demand at meetings with municipal officials, Senior staff, Committees of Council, external agencies, associations and senior levels of government and the public, as required. (5% of time)
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
- Supports internal and external studies related to corridor reviews, environmental assessment studies and traffic impact assessments. (25% of time)
- Oversees the review and commentary on development applications. (60% of time)
- Supervises the activities of consultants as directed by the Manager, providing work direction, assigning tasks/projects, determining methods and procedures to be used, resolving problems, and ensuring results are achieved. (5% of time)
- Maintain current technical knowledge of transportation modeling principles and accepted practices, standards and guidelines. (5% of time)

- Must maintain ability to travel in a timely manner to other offices, work locations or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons.
