Job Description
Department: Supply Chain
Reports to: Manager, Transportation
Status: Full-time
Job Scope:
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation the successful candidate will help deliver department objectives including fostering a culture of safety and compliance along with engagement and attention to detail. Leading a team of dispatchers and drivers, the Transportation Supervisor makes decisions on routing to maximize efficiency and capacity utilization and identifies opportunities to improve customer service.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Lead the team responsible for monitoring and reconciling all proof of deliveries daily.
  • Prepare and deliver training as per department requirements.
  • Responsible for planning deliveries within Route Planning system ensuring compliance with hours of service regulations.
  • Plan and coordinate continuous improvement activities.
  • Lead internal Health and Safety, ensuring safe labour practices are followed through, driver training is conducted, and accountable for all standard operating procedures.
  • Compiling and reporting performance data, maintaining equipment service records, licensing, registrations, and driver profile records in compliance with government regulations.
  • Approve purchase orders/invoices as required.
  • Assign shipments to network of 3rd party carriers.
  • Maintain and publish key KPI’s including fuel consumption, maintenance expense per asset, on time delivery, damages, total kms, etc.
  • Schedule and track maintenance of assigned on-duty commercial vehicles including working with service providers to ensure trucks and trailers are maintained properly, ensuring licensing is current, scheduling repairs as required, and ensuring substitute equipment is available when required.
  • Responsible to schedule relief drivers based on company requirements.
  • Payroll administration including scheduling and vacation planning.
  • Work cross functionally on any ad-hoc projects.
  • Participate in the negotiating of pricing and carrier contracts.
  • Responsible to file claims against carriers for damages, lost product, etc., maintaining and following up on all claims.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce transportation costs and improve customer service levels.
  • Support team in problem solving.
  • Miscellaneous administrative tasks and projects .
  • Manage all aspects of drivers and respective equipment to ensure customer deliveries are completed in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
Qualifications & Competencies:
  • Familiar with continuous improvement processes and methodologies considered an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of transport and warehousing activities and Food Safety including HACCP.
  • Experience using transportation solutions including TMS.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as necessary.
  • Experience with dispatching considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal.
  • Ability to act and react quickly while working on competing priorities.
  • Leadership and a collaborative spirit that inspire and engage teams to achieve excellence.
  • 3 to 5 years transportation supervisory experience, preferably in the food industry; experience handling perishable product an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills for publishing and reporting on KPIs.
  • Post Secondary University Degree or College Diploma or relevant work experience.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
