We are looking to hire a legal assistant to join our firm to assist lawyers. This firm practices in Family Law and Real Estate Law. The ideal candidate would have some experience in these fields or has a keen interest in these area of law.
You would be working with the lawyers as a team and would handle client/firm related matters. The lawyers will provide direction and assistance where needed.
Responsibilities:
Be the firm's face with respect to phone calls and incoming traffic.
Schedule meetings with clients, and liaise with clients over the phone and through email.
Handle administrative details with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, maintaining a file database, etc.
Prepare certificates of financial disclosure and financial statements.
Schedule court appearances.
Manage information in DivorceMate.
Service and filing of court documents.
Manage dockets, calendars, and deadlines.
Organize files.
Handle simple billing tasks such as invoicing and providing receipts
Requirements:
Post-secondary education in the legal field (Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma).
A minimum of 2 years' experience as a legal assistant.
Previous experience with Family Law is an asset.
Familiarity with all filing rules and practice direction of the courts across the GTA.
Understanding of the rules about service and filing.
Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Adobe, and DivorceMate.
Ability to diarize effectively and efficiently.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
Exceptional organization/document management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
