AECOM's Environment team is actively seeking Senior Environmental Planners with experience in delivering energy projects (e.g. Hydro One Networks Inc., Enbridge, renewables, etc.), as well as other Class Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Individual EAs.

Experience is required in developing and executing engagement and consultation programs, coordinating environmental specialists, as well as identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities. The candidate must be skilled at providing advice regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines, and policies, as well as documenting the project process. We are seeking highly motivated and accountable candidates that work collaboratively with other team members and are effective communicators. Organizational skills and an ability to work well on multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment are essential qualities.

Responsibilities: As part of our team, the successful applicant will lead environmental management work and deliverables throughout a project life cycle, including:

• Coordinating, preparing for, attending and documenting project meetings.
• Performing risk management to minimize project risks.
• Conduct site visits and monitor environmental aspects of study areas and infrastructure.
• Developing project objectives, scopes and costs.
• Full project management and/or participating in study administration through developing and tracking environmental work plans and schedules, and budgeting. Full project management includes:
• Measuring project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
• Developing and executing engagement and consultation programs, including project notices, Public Information Centres (virtual and/or in-person), with Indigenous communities, regulatory agencies, members of the public and other project stakeholders with a view of advancing resolutions.
• Researching, conceptualizing, planning, and writing reports/documentation related to planning, design and permitting. Be familiar with Environmental Due Diligence Reports, Environmental Protection Plans/Requirements Documents, Contractor Environmental Management Plans, and other permitting and monitoring documents in support of new, expanded, refurbished electrical infrastructure projects (lines and stations).
• Ensuring that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget. Developing a project plan to track progress, as well as managing changes in project scope, schedules and costs.
• Supporting business development efforts, including proposal writing and participation in industry associations.
• Managing relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Coordinating environmental specialists (i.e., fisheries, terrestrial, noise, air, archaeology, etc.).
• Providing advice regarding environmental aspects, applicable legislation and guidelines, and policies.
• Tracking of consultation with Rights holders and other stakeholders.
• Identifying and assessing environmental features, constraints, alternatives, potential environmental effects, mitigation measures and avoidance opportunities.
• Coordinating internal resources and third parties/vendors to ensure resource availability and allocation.
• Liaising with clients by phone, email, writing and in-person.
• Creating and maintaining project documentation.
• Participation and contribution to AECOM’s Technical Practice Groups.
• Collaborating with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments.
• Liaising with local, Provincial, and Federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Management/Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Urban and Regional Planning or related field.
• Class G driver’s license.
• Experience with the Ontario Energy Board, Class EA for Minor Transmission Facilities, Impact Assessment Act, Ontario EA Act, Municipal Class EAs, and other legislation related to the position (e.g., Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act and their regulations).
• 10+ years of experience.
• Excellent communication skills with proven success in engaging design managers, discipline leads and contractors and negotiating with regulatory agencies to secure project approvals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Full or Provisional membership in a professional body (e.g., Registered Professional Planner (RPP and MCIP); Canadian Environmental Professional (EP); or Project Management Professional (PMP)).
• Bilingual (English and French) an asset.
