Job Summary
Lead Pet Valu’s Inbound and Import Transportation Team that manages daily operations and strategic priorities. As Pet Valu continues to expand through store growth and ecommerce deliveries, the Senior Manager of Inbound Transportation will be instrumental in managing our freight expense while ensuring on-time deliveries from vendors to our distribution centers. This role will lead the efforts to launch a TMS, FBA, and other technology solutions. Lead RFPs and negotiate inbound and import freight rates annually. Support supply chain roadmap and strategies through clearly defined inbound KPIs. Identify sustainability initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage freight forwarders, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure compliance with CBSA and other regulatory agencies
- Launch RFPs and negotiate rates with carriers, freight forwarders, and consolidators while ensuring consistent on-time deliveries are achieved
- Lead team that manages domestic and import operations, data & analysis, and customs brokerage
- Responsible for reducing import detention at ports or DCs by working with third party providers and DCs
- In partnership with IT source and select a TMS, FBA, and other technology solutions
- Ensure overseas consolidation of import freight working with Replenishment team and overseas consolidator. Reduce LCL shipments and increase overseas consolidation where applicable
- Work with Merchandising Business Analysts, Vendor Compliance Team, and Distribution Center teams to ensure carriers meet performance expectations
- In partnership with replenishment analyze data and determine opportunities to improve margin through reduced freight expense and improved performance
- Drive strategies to reduce freight expense through prepaid to collect conversions, LTL consolidation, and increase TL
- Develop PowerPoints and present to key partners and senior leaders within Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Finance
- Identify sustainability initiatives with a focus to reduce miles and our carbon footprint
- Hybrid role with 80% remote and up to 20% working onsite at DCs/HQ
- Develop and hold team accountable to inbound KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
Experience, Education, Certifications
- University degree with preferred concentration in Supply Chain Management/Business Management/Business Analytics/IT or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in Supply Chain with focus on inbound and import transportation or procurement
- Experience leading teams and managing third party providers (transportation carriers and customs brokers)
