Transportation Manager:

Manages, develops, enhances, implements and controls cost effective and efficient import export and domestic movement of Panasonic Canada Inc. product at the lowest possible cost. Remains up to date on regulations, requirements, and freight market conditions, and communicates any issues to management. Coaches, mentors, trains Transportation department staff. Participates in special projects as assigned.


Please note this is a full-time opportunity.


Responsibilities:

  • Liaises with prime vendors, overseas logistics companies, freight carriers, and the freight forwarder industry. Remains up to date on regulations, requirements and freight market conditions. Updates senior management of issues. Prepares and forwards communication bulletins as required.
  • Ensures the knowledge enhancement and professional development of Transportation Department staff. Recommends and implements staff actions such as retention, promotion, hire, transfer, performance, and dismissal. Coaches, mentors, trains and cross-trains staff. Resolves staff grievances. Adheres to Corporate Employment Equity objectives.
  • Selects ocean, inland freight, and local carriers, brokers, off dock distribution centers for best service, timely import, and reasonable costs. Negotiates favorable freight tariffs and rates. Provides guidance for the initiation of claims for damage or lost freight and reimbursement. Develops and recommends standard freight factors by origin for analysis and forecasting. Ensures lowest insurance premiums by minimizing claims to obtain a low loss ratio. Prepares reports as required.
  • Manages scheduling, routing, and expediting product to meet internal and external customer needs. Through others, ensures timely and accurate coordination of product shipment by air, ocean, transborder and domestic means. Resolves escalated issues.


The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good negotiation skills are required to ensure approvals for effective solutions.
  • Rapport is essential for establishing and maintaining working relationships with freight carriers and all parties involved in supply chain, and overseas logistics companies.
  • Mostly significant problem solving with some complex elements. Significant problem solving would be selecting freight carriers, with complex elements being the analysis of in-depth information.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • 2-year Community College diploma with 7 to 10 years related work experience or equivalent.
