About the Role
As Director, IT Project Management, you will be responsible for the delivery of all major IT projects at Telesat and you will play a key role in planning, organizing, and overseeing the delivery of several new major business and technical systems required for the Lightspeed constellation. This is an exciting opportunity to build the next generation of world class telecommunication systems from a clean slate.
This role is located in Ottawa, Ontario where the resource is required to be on site 3 days per week.
You will be responsible for all aspects of project delivery including methodology, tracking, reporting, and communication, and you will lead a team of project managers assigned to your multiple initiatives. This is a senior role for a dynamic, hands on, and results-oriented individual.
How you will contribute:
- Design and build the program and project functions within the IT group.
- Personally, lead particularly challenging projects
- Leverage internal and external resources to staff projects
- Ensure that adequate change management is included in all projects in order to ensure adoption and the realization of expected benefits
- Ensure effective communication mechanisms are in place and manage all communications to team and key stakeholders
- Evaluate and lead project managers and other team members in the delivery of projects. Provide formal and informal coaching to team members
- Implement program and project related standards, policies, and procedures. Initiate, organize and monitor inter-connected projects in a complex and highly technical business environment.
- Maintain relationships with key service providers and lead procurement processes to source delivery capacity either as staff augmentation or as outcome-based agreements
- Work with key stakeholders to scope out projects, understand business requirements and expected benefits, and develop project plans
Education & Experience Required:
- Minimum 10 years' experience leading large IT projects
- Knowledge of the telecommunication industry desirable
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with agile software project delivery; implementation projects of COTS software with associated configurations, customizations and integrations; mobile application development projects; delivery of on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure in support of project implementation
- Minimum 5 years' experience managing other project managers
- Excellent influencing and negotiating skills
- Excellent organizational, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills

- Ability to maintain strong relationships with all levels of management
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
