Job Summary


The Director of the Project Management Office ("PMO") will be responsible to plan, implement, control, and evaluate projects and operational improvement initiatives across the Biopharma & Provider Solutions ("BPS") business unit. BPS includes Specialty Pharmacies, Patient Support Programs, INVIVA Infusion Services, Provider Solutions, Pharmacy Programs & Partnerships, McKesson Specialized Distribution, and PDCI Market Access & Consulting Services. The work will be related to all lines of business, with a particular focus on the first five.


You will be accountable for successful prioritization and delivery of projects that are requested by customers/manufacturers and by internal teams. These can be related, among others, to:


  • The onboarding of new manufacturer programs, ongoing enhancements, creation of automated reports (in collaboration with McKesson Technology) or change requests for programs, services, and products within BPS.
  • Strategic projects and initiatives tied to BPS' priorities and objectives as required to drive the business forward (i.e., implementation of new technology, new systems, etc.)


For each initiative the Director will:


  • Identify resource requirements & assist in the management of the resources assigned to the projects
  • Manage project scope and objectives
  • Identify and mitigate risk
  • Ensure proper project documentation and communication
  • Establish a governance and framework for robust project management
  • Manage and maintain quality standards
  • Manage schedules, control deadlines and address general project organizational needs
  • Complete project auditing & evaluation


You will also develop and mentor PMO staff, and act as the subject matter expert for all PMO processes, establishing PMO best practices for project intake, assessment, delivery, and communications, including the cross divisional knowledge sharing of best practices. Finally, you will act as a member of the Operations Excellence leadership team – demonstrating an enterprise mindset.


The position involves collaboratively working cross functionally with BPS stakeholders to anticipate and plan PMO resource needs, developing effective and efficient models to support the current and evolving BPS project roadmap, planning, organizing, and monitoring the work of a team of professionals who will work across the various BPS lines of business. In addition, this position is responsible for managing the PMO Team by developing, implementing and supporting high quality processes within the framework of McKesson Quality Management System and all applicable regulations with an objective to streamline and optimize operations so that programs can run efficiently and profitably.


Section A – Specific Responsibilities


Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Direct multiple and simultaneous projects of varying complexity, coordinating with internal business units and departments and external clients as required
  • Set-up a process to define, track, and communicate agreed-to delivery dates for each active project.
  • Drive and deliver simplification / standardization / optimization of identified cross-functional processes resulting in a significant return on investment
  • Responsible for supporting new initiatives from within the team, including overall PM responsibilities.
  • Mentor and educate other team members in financial analysis, strategic sourcing techniques and practices, and marketplace/specialty practices.
  • Update the prioritization and end-to-end project delivery processes, in collaboration with McKesson Technology and other key stakeholders
  • Proactively work with internal business units to establish mutually beneficial connectivity, business and operational improvements.
  • Develop and implement team objectives, including service metrics, program and department financial targets, and customer satisfaction objectives
  • Ensure alignment of operational processes with project budgets and financial realities.
  • Engage, collaborate, and partner with senior leadership and business stakeholders to understand strategic & tactical business objectives, facilitate solution formulation, drive value realization and business benefits
  • Proactively identify, align, and prioritize projects according to business unit needs/requirements
  • Responsible for all communications related to the team. This includes the development and determination of format, frequency, material and audience of communications and presentation to the organization. Ensuring clear and concise communication plans and procedures to our external retail customers, account managers and impacted business units as they relate to internal system or architectural changes/improvements.
  • Assist in developing annual budgets and targets for operations and resource requirements, expense management and cost leadership
  • Partner with business leadership to drive adoption of relevant Process Optimization standards, methodologies, performance measurement concepts and best practices within business functional / operational teams
  • Responsible for preparing comprehensive monthly/bi-monthly status reports in accordance with the project reporting needs.
  • Lead the project management team coach and assist with personal development plans.
  • Responsible for preparing and developing project work breakdown structure and project master plan.
  • Responsible for the initiation, documentation, elaboration, prioritization, tracking and implementation of system, operational, business and sourcing process changes based on extensive internal and external research, business requirements gathering, impact assessments and industry best practices.
  • Proactively communicates to Executive Management on program operations, risks, and successes.
  • Responsible for assisting project members in the successful planning, development, and administration of specific project issues. This may require defining scope, estimating labor, technology, and capital resources, scheduling resources and measuring and reporting performance.
  • Identify/drive/deliver/manage strategic approach to achieving targets, track and manage results, take remedial actions, present updates, analysis, and recommendations to senior management.
  • Track and report on the progress of projects and assess project performance metrics in terms of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Act as the corporate owner of all processes that support the Specialty division with a focus on standardization and optimization where possible.
  • Work with business functional leaders (facilitate identification and prioritization) to identify key impact areas to utilize continuous improvement methodologies and manage the program/project priority process

Section C – Position Requirements


  • Ability to maintain perspective and confidence in face of difficult contract negotiations, tight deadlines and client expectations.
  • Project Management Professional certification is an asset
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint, Excel and MS Project; Visio.
  • Creative and innovative thinker with an ability to challenge the status quo to drive significant change.
  • Strong people management skills, including delegation, motivation, coaching and conflict management capabilities. Has the ability to coach and mentor and develop cross-functional team members to obtain desired results.
  • Strong financial and financial modeling acumen.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Operations / Finance / Management; MBA is desirable
  • Strong ability to build relationships, analyze situations and solve problems that satisfy multiple perspectives internal and external to the organization.
  • 8+ years people leadership experience
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Presents complex ideas clearly, with an ability to manage the complexities of executing significant change and influence individuals to achieve objectives.
  • 10+ year's project and program management experience
  • Understanding of McKesson Canada business processes: operations, business, sourcing and IT systems (e.g., ordering process, listing process).
  • Ability to work effectively and comfortably with Executives in an organization.

Our Base Pay Range for this position


$112,300 - $187,100
