Plains currently has an opening in mid-2023 for a Facility Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Operations Engineering Group.


The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in Plains EIT development program. This program will cover the first 4 (four) years of development employment that are crucial for graduate engineers to attain the right experience in order to be licensed in Canada.


This position will initially support the Great Lakes NGL district. It will be based out of Sarnia Ontario and will support various NGL fractionation, transportation, and storage assets in eastern Canada and the United States. There may be opportunities to complete rotations at other Plains assets located in Western Canada or our head offices located in Calgary.


The Operations Engineering team acts as the engineering authority for the district and is responsible for provision of technical support for:


Maintaining safe and reliable operations Regulatory compliance Asset Optimization Commercial Expansion


The OE team provides support and guidance on all aspects of production, product quality, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, asset optimization, maintenance, reliability, asset condition monitoring, project development, execution, and management, management of change, process safety management, technology selection and evaluation, and environmental and regulatory compliance


The Facility EIT will be responsible for providing technical and engineering support to an NGL processing facility and associated storage and marketing terminals in the region in project management, process monitoring/optimizing, work order support, process safety management, troubleshooting, and rotating equipment to ensure continued equipment performance and capability. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced environment and are confident in their ability to work on multiple projects.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide project management services on small projects (procurement, contractor evaluations, pre-job meetings, drawing updates, forecasting);
  • Perform simple economic analysis of projects. Recognize the key business drivers which generate value (low operating costs, flexibility, importance of reacting to outside business influences); and
  • Provide support for the Management of Change evaluations for technical and administrative changes proposed.
  • Provide innovative, cost effective solutions to plant problems.
  • Participate in process safety evaluations (HAZOP, Management of Change Checklists);
  • Provide engineering support to ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from process or operational changes without negatively impacting the safety or operability of production facilities;
  • Lead or assist projects related to plant piping, storage, pipelines and rail/truck loading (including: material specification, procurement, QC requirements, and development of construction drawings);
  • Participate in incident investigations, process and equipment failure analysis as required;
  • Develop and recommend projects, as well as a related scope, to improve performance in terms of reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and net revenue;
  • Become proficient in the applicable codes and standards, in addition to support the refinement of PMC specifications;
  • Support initiatives to optimize asset performance.
  • Participate and facilitate risk ranking reviews to determine operational risks and safe guards required to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure compliance to standards and regulatory requirements applicable to engineering activities;
  • Participate and facilitate in root cause analysis (RCA) related to incident investigations, production upsets and equipment failures.
  • Completion of Work Orders and support to planning and scheduling on WO prioritization and quantification of risks associated with scopes of work.


Qualifications:


  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; and
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering is preferred;
  • Successful candidate must pass a Company Background Check and a Drug & Alcohol test prior to hire.
  • Strong computer, organizational and technical skills.
  • Knowledgeable in project management processes;
  • Working knowledge of industry codes, Oil and Gas operations and regulatory requirements;
  • Data mining and analytical capabilities to support prioritization of work;
