Position Overview
You are an experienced human resources leader, known for your strategic thinking and for being a key player in driving organizational performance and effectiveness. You understand the importance of adapting to an ever-changing labour landscape and have the unique ability to inspire and coach your teams and others across the organization to meet workforce needs. These qualities make you the perfect fit for our Director, People role.
Reporting to the Vice President, People, you are responsible for providing direction and leadership to a team of People leaders and professionals across a broad scope of human resources disciplines.
In this role, you will:

• Partner with senior leaders across the organization on issues management recommendations, ensuring programs, practices and priorities are consistent with corporate goals and in compliance with collective agreements, regulations and laws.
• Instil excellence in all aspects of our People practices, including the evolution of our corporate culture, change management, and overall employee morale and engagement.
• Act as the representative for the People department and fellow senior leaders across the organization, including the Executive Leadership Team to achieve business objectives, while bringing deep employment and labour knowledge, business acumen, strategic and creative thinking and sound judgment to decision making.
• Use change management best practices and project management to lead the execution of key People initiatives, including but not limited to employee engagement survey action plans.
• Bring the People strategy to life, providing direction to a leadership team to achieve FortisBC’s annual business plans and department objectives.
• Develop and implement practical human resource strategies that complement the overall corporate strategy while ensuring talent programs are optimally coordinated and integrated across the business.
• Maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to foster a positive employee and labour relations environment, building strong relationships with unions, Indigenous communities, and educational institutions.
• Conduct a review of the department’s responsibilities, accountabilities, processes and technology to develop recommendations on organizational design.
• Provide guidance and coaching to the People department to ensure the effective execution of both short and long-term objectives, as well as develop, analyze, evaluate, and execute corporate strategies.
• Empower and lead a team of skilled employees and immerse yourself in our company’s culture.

What it takes:

• Demonstrated ability to effectively develop, coach, and lead a team and execute strategic plans would be considered an asset.
• Exceptional strategic thinking skillset to provide clear direction to a team of People leaders and professionals, in a complex high-pressure environment.
• Leadership maturity to prioritize and manage multiple business priorities while effectively developing, coaching, and leading their team.
• Proven track record for serving as a trusted advisor and collaborating with others to drive for results and optimal performance.
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution, with a minimum of 15 years of recent and related experience including senior leadership in a unionized environment. A master’s degree in a business-related discipline is considered an asset.
