About this opportunity:


The Trucking Business Development Advisor is a critical role within the Downstream Rail & Marine Business Development team evaluating and providing recommendations for business development & freight opportunities related to the movement of crude and products in Canada and the U.S. by truck and rail. This role involves ensuring critical business processes are developed and implemented in areas such as freight rate requests, KPI tracking, contract renewals, support new carrier onboarding, and the updating of data systems.


Reporting to the Director, Rail and Marine, the Advisor is accountable for providing recommendations based on the analysis of alternatives and monitoring key commercial triggers and terms. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic team environment, assisting in developing truck solutions for Cenovus’s production and downstream assets.

Responsibilities:


  • KPI tracking, preparation and distribution of reports related to commercial trucking contracts
  • Accountable for developing an accurate and consistent freight rate request process across multiple commodities that includes receiving and tracking freight quotes and maintaining centralized database
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements related to freight requests and invoicing
  • Support the evaluation of business development opportunities to extract value
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of trucking related invoices to ensure cost accuracy
  • Analyze and develop recommendations to increase margins through the development and evaluation of transportation alternatives
  • Assist with project to centralize all Canadian truck rates into Rail & Marine Business Development team
  • Support the Business Development team in identifying new growth opportunities and areas for optimization
  • Respond to internal and external customer queries providing advice and problem solving for customers
  • Develop and sustain positive relationships with customers, terminal operators, and other partners
  • Attend safety sessions with carriers to ensure Cenovus standards are adhered to and provide commercial recommendations for resolution if needed
  • Understand commercial contracts related to trucking freight, loading/offloading terminal, storage and truck requirements and impact to Cenovus crude-by-rail and product programs;
  • Collaborate with Cenovus personnel, trucking companies, and terminals
  • Ensure accuracy in processes for communicating, evaluating and storing truck cost information;
  • Analyze freight quotes and provide freight recommendations based on overall value proposition


Qualifications:


  • Strong industry relationships and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong understanding of commercial value drivers;
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, negotiation, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills;
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and travel in the US;
  • Experience in the review, management and retention of contracts;
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously;
  • Minimum of 5-7+ years’ of relevant experience combined with formal education in Business, Economics, Accounting or related field;
  • Experience in Canadian and US transportation logistics, analytics, supply chain, or equivalent work experience;
  • Customer focused, and self-motivated, willing to take initiative;
  • Experience in all facets of trucking pricing, including equipment, pricing based on commodities, cost drivers, permits, trucking tariffs, rules and regulations;
