Job Description
STUDENT ADVISOR

FACULTY OF RESEARCH & ACADEMIC INNOVATION

NorQuesters are difference makers and we’re searching for someone dedicated to finding ways forward to join our Faculty of Research & Academic Innovation team as a Student Advisor.

Reporting to Project Manager, Streamlining Accessibility in the Supply Chain, the successful candidate will support clients, once they are admitted into the program. The Streamlining Employability in the Supply Chain Sector is focused on developing a Prior Learning and Assessment Recognition (PLAR) platform that will support learners in recognizing and validating skills and experience acquired in the supply chain industry. The successful candidates will be responsible for meeting with clients shortly after they receive admission, review their credentials and support them in identifying the top assessment that aligns with their previous experience. The Student Advisor will also guide them through the process if they do not pass the assessment and work with them in identifying alternative pathways.

This is fulltime term position until January 31, 2025.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Follow-up with clients after they’ve taken the assessment to discuss next steps.
  • Support them in identifying which assessment better aligns with their past experience and credentials.
  • Identify outstanding needs and work with the project manager to provide access to resources that will reduce those barriers.
  • Meet with clients once they’ve been admitted into the program. This will be a combination of in-person meetings and online for those outside of Edmonton.
  • Provide clients with a list of resources and alternative pathways if they do not meet the requirements in the assessment.
  • Provide clients with study guides.
  • Respond to client inquiries and concerns.
  • Proctor assessments in person at the NorQuest College campus and/or online for those outside of Edmonton.
  • Work with the Career Coach to support clients as they move into the work placement stage of the project, following the assessment.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of related experience directly supporting students within a post-secondary environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Social Sciences and Humanities, Business, Education).
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of issues facing immigrants in Western Canada.
  • Knowledge of ethno-cultural communities and components of learner success in a post-secondary environment.
  • Strong understanding of the supply chain sector.
  • Experience teaching and/or proctoring assessments.
  • Knowledge of e-learning and educational technology tools.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with the design and delivery of innovative approaches to learning.

What Makes You a Difference Maker

As a difference maker you bring

  • Cultural sensitivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to work with clients in solving complex issues.
  • Strong analytic, problem-solving, and critical thinking skill.
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrated experience working with students within a post-secondary environment.

SALARY $2,336-$3,033 biweekly ($60,724-$78,850) reflective upon what you bring, AKA your education and experience. This is a fulltime term position until January 31, 2025 with immediate access to our great benefit program.

We offer flexible work options. We strive for balance between a flexible work environment, connectedness to the campus community, and ensuring NorQuesters are set up to succeed in their roles and responsibilities.

Difference Makers. If we were to describe what NorQuest College is, we’d say these two words. We are so fundamentally driven in our mission to make a difference to our students, our community, and to our fellow NorQuesters, that it guides what we do, who we meet, and where we are headed.

So how do we make differences?

  • We unlock potential. Whether its newcomers to Canada who want to improve their English, students who want to complete their academic upgrading, learners pursuing post-secondary education, or anyone who wishes to strengthen their skills through professional development, our passion to educate touches people of all levels and all backgrounds.
  • We strengthen Alberta. From our graduates who hit the ground running, to our partnerships with government, industry, and business, to our commitment to communities, including a dedicated focus on Indigenous communities, we contribute to our province and make it stronger. We strive to be an employer of choice for First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in Canada by leading, supporting, and being an ally through our work toward decolonization, reconciliation, and Indigenization.
  • We empower NorQuesters. When it comes to working, it’s up to you to decide where (on campus or from another location) and how you work. NorQuesters are expected to embody our Qs—lead from where you are, be dependable, find ways forward—to name a few, but how you do that is your choice!

And that’s a snapshot of how we are Difference Makers. But there’s so much more to us and we invite you to explore further!
