Job Description
Position Overview
The Office of VP International is currently seeking a Full-timeLimited Term Global Learning Advisor for approximately 21 months.
Reporting to the Manager, Education Abroad, the Global Learning Advisor will provide expertise related to the administrative oversight and implementation of Global Learning programs and activities. They are a liaison for all students and instructors involved in Global Learning programs at the University of Calgary (Ucalgary), providing superior advising and assistance related to all phases of the Global Learning process and highly involved in program development, implementation, and promotion.
This role requires the ability to proactively seek out, understand and convey a variety of complex information in an accurate and easy-to-comprehend manner as well as the initiative to identify and respond to the ever-evolving needs of the diverse students and programs they work with.
The incumbent will work closely with students, instructors, academic units, advisors and administrators at UCalgary and overseas, as well as other agencies providing travel-related services to ensure high quality and timely service standards for their assigned portfolio of Global Learning programs and activities. They will exhibit initiative, discretion, sound judgment and decision making based on current information, knowledge and experience while following outlined procedures.There is a high volume of detail-oriented work with frequent interruptions. It is important that the Advisor be able to balance individual-based project work with a high level of people-focused interactions, while demonstrating excellent organization and time management skills to ensure deadlines are met.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • Administering all student-based aspects of Global Learning programs and providing pre-program, in field and post-program support;
  • Contributing to the design, development and implementation of an assigned portfolio of projects to improve and enhance programs and services in line with the Global Engagement Plan
  • Advising prospective Global Learning program participants as to the range of options available, selection of appropriate programs, application requirements and processes, program policies, preparation and post-program procedures
  • Providing comprehensive programming and support to student volunteers and peer mentors
  • Coordinating a designated portfolio of Global Learning programs, including contributing to program development, logistical preparations, marketing and recruitment, and comprehensive wraparound support for students and instructional staff involved in programs
  • Collaborating in the development and implementation of promotion and recruitment activities for Global Learning programs, using a variety of established and innovative methods
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Familiarity with a variety of countries and cultures, including understanding of and experience with cross cultural communication and adaptation, health and safety, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience with program/project management and oversight
  • Knowledge of FOIPP regulations
  • Knowledge of both academic and non-academic university regulations, programs, procedures and services, including University of Calgary degree processes and requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, strong presentation and group facilitation skills
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of University core business systems (PeopleSoft) is an asset
  • Demonstrated marketing/promotional experience, including website development and maintenance, and experience designing, creating and executing marketing initiatives using various social media platforms
  • A second language is an asset
  • Undergraduate degree with 2-5 years’ experience working in a post-secondary educational setting, ideally with a focus on Global Learning / international programming
  • Demonstrated experience in Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Yuja, Photoshop and/or Illustrator, online learning platforms (i.e., D2L) Qualtrics, and Zoom
  • Demonstrated ability to seek out, retain and accurately convey large amounts of detailed information
  • Ability to work within budgets for program development
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, Outlook, CRM, Teams, Excel and database programs
  • Ability to creatively challenge and demonstrate initiative to generate improvements and foster positive outcomes
  • Previous experience in study abroad or working internationally is strongly preferred
